Thomas Rhett Falls on His Way to the Stage for a Performance and Injures Ankle: ‘I Left in a Wheelchair’

Feel better, Thomas Rhett!
The country star, 35, made a surprise appearance during Forrest Frank’s April 13 concert at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville to perform their collaboration “Nothing Else” and fell on his way to the stage, injuring his ankle in the process.
Thomas Rhett opened up about the experience in an Instagram post shared on April 14. The video opened with his wife Lauren Akins pushing him in a wheelchair before cutting to the events leading up to his injury.
During the show, Frank introduced his special guest for their “Nothing Else” performance before cutting to Thomas Rhett sitting in the crowd. He got up, began walking to the stage and took a fall after going down a short flight of stairs.
The “Half of Me” singer limped to the stage and powered through the performance, noting he was in “pain” throughout.
“Every now and then you just have to sing at a Forrest Frank concert and break your ankle in the process,” said Thomas Rhett. “I gave my all for Tennessee tonight.”
Akins then laughed as she wheeled her husband through the venue. “@hiforrest told me to pull up and I left in a wheelchair,” he wrote in the caption.
PEOPLE can confirm Thomas Rhett’s ankle was sprained following the performance, not broken.
Thomas Rhett’s latest album, About a Woman, was released in August 2024.
He’s currently gearing up to embark on the Better in Boots Tour, kicking off June 5 in Rogers, Ark. and stoping in St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Toronto, Detroit, Cincinnati, Salt Lake City and more before wrapping Sept. 26 in Ridgefield, Wash.

The “After All the Bars Are Closed” artist isn’t the only country singer to take a tumble on stage this week. During Kelsea Ballerini’s April 13 show at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, she fell off a moving stage platform while performing a cover of Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places” in tribute to her crew.
