Sydney Sweeney Parties in Blue Jeans After American Eagle Ad Controversy

Sydney Sweeney still loves a pair of blue jeans.

The actress, 27, took to Instagram on Friday, August 15, to share photos of herself enjoying a night out with friends at a bar. Sweeney sported jeans and a white T-shirt as she danced, sang karaoke and posed alongside three men and a plate of shots. 

“Duval diaries,” she captioned the post, potentially referring to Duval County in Florida. 

The Euphoria star recently returned to Instagram after sparking backlash for her American Eagle denim campaign, dubbed “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.” The July ad circulated widely on social media and was accused of promoting eugenics. Responding earlier this month, American Eagle stated that the campaign was “always was about the jeans.”

The brand added that it will “continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way.”

While Sweeney has yet to respond to the controversy, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that “Sydney thinks this whole thing has been blown out of proportion.”

“She’s focusing her energy on work, including being back on set with her Euphoria family,” the source revealed on August 5. 

Production on the HBO series, where Sweeney portrays Cassie Howard, commenced in February of this year. 

On Wednesday, August 13, she shared behind-the-scenes glimpses of her crime thriller Americana, which hit theaters Friday.

“A few years ago I filmed this little movie with some friends and now you get to meet Penny Jo,” she wrote via Instagram, referencing her character, a shy waitress who dreams of becoming a famous country singer.

In a series of snapshots, Sweeney flaunted Penny Jo’s big, blond hair and folksy outfits. One photo showed her strumming on a guitar while sporting a bandana. 

“Dolly [Parton] is definitely her biggest aspirational role model,” Sweeney told Entertainment Weekly in June. “Dolly is almost like a godlike figure to Penny Jo, and I really wanted to make sure that we had the aspirations of being Dolly, but then, she doesn’t have the resources.”

Sweeney’s Americana post drew both criticism and praise in the comments section.

“Whoops forgot I was still following you,” someone remarked, while other followers gushed, “They could never make me hate you Sydney,” “I love how she pisses so many people off by just existing,” and: “Just remember, none of the haters were your fans to begin with so please ignore them.”
