George Clooney abruptly backs out of Venice Film Festival appearances over illness
George Clooney has abruptly backed out of his appearances at the Venice Film Festival due to an illness, a representative confirmed to Page Six.
“George has been diagnosed with a sinus infection and is under doctor’s orders to cut back all activities today,” a rep for the “Ocean’s Eleven” actor tells us.
The news came after Clooney, 64, skipped a press junket for his new film, “Jay Kelly,” on Wedneday, and missed a dinner with castmates Adam Sandler and Laura Dern that night.
The “Batman & Robin” star also missed the Netflix film’s official press conference on Thursday.
“As you may know, George Clooney is not going to be here because he has a bad sinus infection,” the press conference’s moderator said, per People.
“We really hope, and I think he should be on the red carpet tonight. But he is very sorry he cannot be with us.”
“Jay Kelly” director Noah Baumbach jokingly added, “Even movie stars get sick.”
George and his wife, Amal Clooney, arrived in the “City of Water” on Tuesday.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2014, waved at fans as they exited the vessel before heading to their hotel.
Amal, 47, stunned in a butter-yellow midi halterneck dress from Balmain’s Resort 2026 collection. The gown featured large pockets and a built-in belt with a chunky gold buckle.
The international law and human rights lawyer paired her look with white slingback heels and a white Balmain handbag.
Meanwhile, George looked dapper in a black polo, cream pants and tan suede loafers.
However, by Wednesday, the two-time Oscar winner was spotted leaving Hotel Excelsior to take a boat home to rest.
