Big Brother season 27 contestant Rylie Jeffries is breaking his silence over fans who were concerned about his relationship with fellow contestant Katherine Woodman.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly via email in an interview published Thursday, Aug. 28, a week following his eviction from the game, Jeffies called himself a “God-fearing, big-hearted man” and that it was “painful” to see people online “twist” his and Woodman’s relationship into “something negative.”
“The version of me being spread isn’t who I am, and I wish people would see past the false claims,” he added.
Fans often voiced their concern throughout the season about how Jeffries treated Wooman.
Big Brother 15 winner Andy Herren slammed Jeffries, 27, as being “a controlling, manipulative, emotionally abusive creep” on the live feeds and claimed the show edited him as a “sensitive hero.”
Others called him scary and accused him of gaslighting Woodman, 23.
Despite the perception from those outside the Big Brother house, Woodman was visibly upset when Jeffries was voted out.
In the week since, she has even vowed to seek revenge on his behalf against Rachel Reilly, whose Head of Household reign resulted in Jeffries’ eviction.
Jeffries said he can “understand” people having that point of view, but that his “intensity was misunderstood.”
“I would never intentionally disrespect anyone, especially Katherine,” he said. “I respect her deeply, and she’s her own person, makes her own choices.”
Jeffries said some of the moments in the game “don’t reflect who I truly am,” adding, “My intentions have always come from a place of care and loyalty, not control.”
“It’s heartbreaking to be misunderstood,” he said. “People online don’t know me, but my friends, family, fellow Houseguests, and Katherine do, and that’s what’s important.”
“I spent every day in that house with people who truly know me, who see the real me: someone who’s loving, funny, and full of heart,” he continued. “It hurts to be painted as aggressive when all I’ve ever done is lead with passion and care.”
Jeffries also expressed his feelings about Reilly backdooring him from the game.
The professional bull rider said Reilly — a previous Big Brother winner who returned this season — gave him her word “not just once, but multiple times throughout the season” that she had his back.
“She pulled me and Katherine aside and promised she’d never put either of us up, that she wanted to work with us, and that she’d never come between the showmance,” he claimed. “So to be blindsided like that…it really hurt.”
“It’s one thing to make a game move, but it’s another to look someone in the eye and promise safety, only to go back on it,” he added.
Jeffries said what “stings the most” about the situation is “being lied to by someone you believed in.”
