Jenna Bush Hager is teasing this Today show staffer for not answering her calls.
On the Aug. 28 episode of Today With Jenna & Friends, the host, 43, and Today show contributor Donna Farizan discussed why some Gen Zs don’t enjoy speaking on the phone.
“It’s interesting because it is a generational thing,” Farizan noted, adding, “I sometimes don’t like to talk on the phone.”
However, Bush Hager took the opportunity to make a playful jab at her co-host, saying, “That’s why you didn’t answer when I called you the other day, I mean, for real.”
As Farizan laughed, she admitted, “It’s true.” Bush Hager explained, “Y’all laugh like it’s a joke, but I called her, and she didn’t answer.”
Faraian then clarified the pair “texted,” but Bush Hager shared, “’Y’all, it ain’t the same.”
The television personality then turned to the camera to make her point crystal clear with a PSA for younger generations.
“I just want to say if you’re under a certain age and you write somebody an email and you think, ‘Hey, why haven’t they gotten me back’ Then you write them a text and they don’t respond, guess what you can do? You can pick up a phone!” she explained.
“You can call and say, ‘Hey, just thinking about you, trying to call,’” she reminded viewers. “It doesn’t all have to be on email or text.”
“There is truth to that,” Farizan responded. “I love talking on the phone with you.”
However, Bush Hager teased that she knew Farizan’s true feelings, saying, “Once you get on the phone with me, you like it, you dread it when you see me calling.”
“I don’t dread it,” she replied with a laugh, but Bush Hager countered, “I know you do because you silenced me and then you texted, ‘I’ll call you in a few days.’”‘
Bush Hager took over as co-host of the fourth hour of Today with Hoda Kotb following Kathie Lee Gifford’s exit in April 2019.
On Jan. 13 of this year, she launched Today with Jenna & Friends following Hoda Kotb’s last day on Jan. 10. She announced that a rotating list of celebrity guests would be stepping in to help fill the empty slot.
“What’s so cool about it is that it really does feel like we’re pulling up chairs for all different types of people,” Bush Hager told PEOPLE at the time. “Yes, we have actors, but we also have comedians and people in media. And I think that really is what we’re hoping to have: a total representation of who watches our show and something for every viewer.”
