Melania Trump wraps up in Burberry trench for UK state visit

The First Lady’s wardrobe is already heeding London’s call.

Melania Trump departed Joint Base Andrews on Monday wearing a sand-colored Burberry trench, its collar turned up and signature check lining just visible as she boarded Air Force One alongside President Donald Trump.

The couple is bound for the UK, where King Charles III and Queen Camilla will host them for a three-day state visit at Windsor Castle, as Buckingham Palace remains under renovation. UK police are mounting one of the country’s largest drone operations since the King’s coronation to safeguard Windsor during the Trumps’ stay.

Melania cinched the double-breasted coat at the waist and finished the look with Dior’s Empreinte riding boots — a black, knee-high style with a gold “CD” clasp at the ankle.

It’s a more understated departure ensemble than her first UK state visit in 2019, when she set off in a Gucci dress printed with illustrations of London iconography like Big Ben, Tower Bridge, and a double-decker bus.

Later, she opted for polished formality when meeting Queen Elizabeth II, donning a Dolce & Gabbana white midi dress paired with classic pump heels and a wide-brimmed hat.

Throughout the rest of the visit, she stuck to a palette of neutrals and navy, cycling through designers like The Row, Celine, and Hermes, along with headwear from Irish milliner — and royal family favorite — Phillip Treacy.

This time around, the trench coat choice feels deliberate — and diplomatic. Burberry is quintessentially British, and its heritage trench has dressed everyone from Winston Churchill to Kate Moss.

US-UK relations have been under strain in recent months, so the understated look may be intended to project deference rather than dominance.

With a grand state banquet on the schedule for this visit, there’s almost certainly more headline-making fashion on board the presidential plane.
