Danielle Fishel addresses ‘Dancing With the Stars’ eliminations after viral Whitney Leavitt moment
Danielle Fishel “never ever suspected” that Lauren Jauregui would get axed from “Dancing With the Stars” so soon this season.
The “Boy Meets World” alum shared how “bummed” she felt about the shocking elimination on Wednesday’s episode of her “Danielle With the Stars” podcast, which dropped one day after the Fifth Harmony star was sent home from the dance competition show.
The actress, who went viral this week for a post-elimination interaction with fellow contestant Whitney Leavitt, called Jauregui’s exit “very shocking.”
“I really love Lauren. I love watching her perform. … Her face is just a work of art, and she’s expressive and graceful and fun,” Fishel gushed.
“She’s all those things as a person too. I’ve really enjoyed the moments we’ve passed each other in the halls and been able to give each other a hug and been rooting for each other.”
At the end of Tuesday’s “TikTok Night” episode, the former Fifth Harmony member and her pro partner, Brandon Armstrong, were patiently awaiting to hear their fate from co-hosts Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro.
The other couples who were in danger of elimination were comedian Andy Richter and Emma Slater and actress Elaine Hendrix and Alan Bersten.
Fishel told listeners how “very sad” she felt that Jauregui and Armstrong were the ones to go, pointing out how “great” the singer’s scores were.
“It’s not even like she’s been in the bottom score-wise, so it just really goes to show you how important votes are,” the former Disney Channel star said. “The only thing I can figure is that somehow she didn’t have enough votes. Shocking. Truly a shocking night.”
Fishel acknowledged that it is always a “not so great” and “nerve-racking” experience to lose fellow cast members each week, though it’s all part of the competition.
As for how Jauregui felt, the “X Factor” alum epically admitted to host Julianne Hough on Tuesday that she was “pissed” about the results.
Naturally, fans of the show took to social media to weigh in on the elimination. Some then speculated over what was happening in a now-viral clip of Fishel and Leavitt.
When Jauregui was consoled by the rest of the Season 34 competitors, the cheery “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” star was caught on camera seemingly trying to celebrate with Fishel for making it through to the next round of the competition.
Leavitt quickly corrected her expression on live TV after briefly chatting with Fishel.
Social media users poked fun at the interaction, with one analyzing, “You can clearly see Danielle tell her it’s not the time and Whitney goes back to pretending to feel bad 😂.”
Page Six exclusively chatted with Fishel and Pashkov after the show, where the two addressed everything from the positive feedback they’ve received from the judges to how the actress is giving herself “grace” on her “DWTS” journey and more.

“Dancing With the Stars” airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+, with new episodes airing on Hulu the following day.
