How ‘SNL’ paid tribute to Diane Keaton after her death
Diane Keaton was honored during “Saturday Night Live” just hours after she died at the age of 79.
At the end of Saturday’s episode of the NBC sketch comedy show, a tribute card flashed across the screen.
Keaton’s name appeared atop a black-and-white photo of her in her younger years.
Sporting her signature collared shirt and tie, the beloved actress was pictured flashing a cheeky smile while looking off to the side.
Episode host and “SNL” alum Amy Poehler also gave a subtle nod to Keaton by wearing a collared shirt and tie during the farewell.
The official “SNL” social media pages subsequently posted the tribute card alongside the simple caption, “Diane Keaton ❤️.”
“Getting the news earlier today was genuinely heartbreaking. A true icon. Loved that they did this in the end of the episode 😢💔🕊️,” one of many fans commented.
“I’m still in shock. Diane was joy personified. I adored everything about her and I’m glad I live in a world where she existed. May she rest in peace 🙏🕊🤍💔,” someone else remarked.
“So glad you shared this image last night, that’s how I found out she passed. 💔😢,” another netizen noted.
Keaton died Saturday in California, where she lived, a rep told People, adding, “There are no further details available at this time, and her family has asked for privacy in this moment of great sadness.”
It was later reported that the Los Angeles Fire Department had responded to the movie star’s home just after 8 that morning and transported her via ambulance to a local hospital.
While Keaton’s cause of death has not yet been revealed, a friend told People that her health had “declined very suddenly” in recent months, but she and her tight-knit circle “chose to keep things very private.”
Her longtime pal Carole Bayer Sager went on to reveal that she was “stunned by how much weight [Keaton had] lost” when she last saw her less than a month ago.
A source added that the mother of two “loved” her Brentwood neighborhood, where she lived for many years, and that “up until just a few months ago, she’d walk her dog every day.”
To the surprise of her pals, Keaton — who battled both skin cancer and bulimia during her life — listed her “dream home” in March.
She appeared happy and healthy in her last Instagram post in April in honor of National Pet Day,
