Robert Irwin breaks down in tears during ‘DWTS’ routine dedicated to mom Terri, late dad Steve

Robert Irwin broke down in tears on Tuesday’s episode of “Dancing With the Stars.”
During “Dedication Night,” the wildlife conservationist and his dancing partner, Witney Carson, performed an emotional contemporary routine set to Phil Collins’ “You’ll Be In My Heart” from the 1990 Disney film, “Tarzan.”
Robert, 21, dedicated the performance to his mother, Terri Irwin, in honor of the admirable strength she’s shown their family since the tragic death of his father, Steve Irwin, in 2006. The beloved “Crocodile Hunter” was just 44 years old when he was fatally struck by a stingray barb.
“This is a moment with my mother that I will cherish forever,” Robert said in a video ahead of the dance. “And I know my dad would be so proud.”
Terri appeared at the end of the dance, holding hands with her son. The two gave one another a huge hug, with Robert in tears.
Terri also wiped away tears as the judges praised the performance, giving it a 35 out of 40.
Judge Derek Hough got choked up as he expressed the love he had for Robert’s family. Hough was partnered with Robert’s older sister, 27-year-old Bindi Irwin, during season 21 of “DWTS.”
“Man, I’m so proud of you,” Hough said. “I really am. You’ve become such an amazing man, and the world needs the Irwin family.”
Bindi was in the ballroom Monday to support her brother, after winning the Season 21 mirrorball trophy in 2015. During “Dedication Night” on her season, she dedicated her performance to the late zookeeper.
Terri, 61, talked about her husband’s death in the video that played ahead of the performance.
“When they told me about Steve’s accident, it completely broadsided me, because Steve was only 44 years old,” she recalled. “It was kind of unreal for Bindi.”
“Bindi was so strong at the time, but when you love someone that much, it’s like totally losing a piece of your heart,” she continued. “You’re really not going to get over it.”
Fans praised Terri when Hough re-posted his and Bindi’s dance on TikTok.
“I’m sorry but Terri is the strongest person on the planet,” one person wrote. “She not only raised two beautiful children perfectly, she continued to instill Steve’s teachings in them.”
Robert has emerged as a Season 34 frontrunner thanks to his strong performances since premiere night. His fit physique has also won him plenty of new fans.
The wildlife conservationist — who’s currently single and previously shared he’s looking for the perfect American girl — danced shirtless to “Million Dollar Baby” by Tommy Richman during “TikTok Night,” where he later told Page Six that his DMs were popping.
“First of all, it just means so, so much,” he said at the time. “But, yeah, I’m on the lookout and it’ll happen when it happens … keep it coming!”
“Dancing With the Stars” returns next Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+, with new episodes streaming on Hulu the following day.
