Will Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice Lose Their Titles as Father Prince Andrew Gives Up His Own?

Prince Andrew has given up his Duke of York title amid a recent scandal — but will it affect his daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s own royal status?

Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 35, will not lose their titles or royal positions, People reported on Friday, October 17, noting Andrew’s decision to surrender his titles doesn’t affect their roles within the family.

Us Weekly has reached out to the royal family for comment.

Beatrice was given the title “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of York” at birth as the eldest child of Andrew, 65, and then-wife Sarah Ferguson, who were at the time styled as “The Duke and Duchess of York.” (Andrew and Ferguson, 66, divorced in 1996 after 10 years of marriage.)

Once Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020, the York was dropped from her title. She is now styled as “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice, Mrs. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.”

Eugenie’s title followed the same pattern as her older sister. She was born “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie of York,” and upon marrying Jack Brooksbank in 2018, she was styled as “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank.”

Both Beatrice and Eugenie are working royals — like their cousin Prince William, who is next in line for the throne after his father, King Charles III.

The princesses will retain their titles as nieces to the king, 76, and hold their place in line for the throne, according to Hello! Beatrice is ninth in line, following Andrew, and Eugenie is 12th.

Andrew, who is the younger brother of Charles, announced on Friday that he will no longer retain his Duke of York title as his past connection to convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein continues to make headlines.

“In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family,” Andrew said in a statement to Us. “I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.”

Defending her ex. Sarah Ferguson defended her former husband, Prince Andrew, after he was stripped of his royal titles following his involvement in a sexual assault lawsuit brought by one of the late Jeffrey Epstein’s accusers. “He’s such a good man,” the Duchess of York, 63, said of her ex during a Thursday, April 20, […]

He added: “With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honors which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”

The news came as Andrew’s past connection to Epstein continues to haunt him. In 2019, the late Virginia Giuffre accused Andrew of sexual assault. She claimed that while at one of Epstein’s properties when she was 17, Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell set up the sexual encounter.

Andrew has continued to deny the allegations and denied having any connection with Giuffre.

In the wake of the scandal, Andrew announced in November 2019 that he would be stepping back from his royal duties.

“It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstance relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family’s work and the valuable work going on in the many organizations and charities that I am proud to support,” he said in a statement at the time. “Therefore, I have asked Her Majesty [Queen Elizabeth II] if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission.”

Andrew remained in the spotlight, however, after Giuffre sued him in 2021 for sexual abuse. The pair eventually settled out of court for an undisclosed amount. Giuffre died by suicide in April. She was 41.

Epstein, for his part, was arrested for federal charges of sex trafficking minors in July 2019. He died by suicide one month later at the age of 66 while inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York.

Maxwell, meanwhile, was found guilty on child sex trafficking charges in 2021 and was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2022.

Andrew’s name was once again linked to Epstein earlier this month when an alleged email exchange between the men from 2011 resurfaced. Multiple reports claimed that after the email made its rounds, tension between Andrew and Charles rose ahead of the title surrender.
