Like ‘Black Phone 2’? Then Watch These 3 Underrated Scary Movies Right Now

On Friday, October 17, Black Phone 2 will hit theaters and reunite the cast of The Black Phone for another supernaturally charged horror movie.
But you don’t have to go out to a theater for spooks and jump scares when some great films are streaming at home.
Watch With Us has selected the three movies just like Black Phone 2 that you can stream on the major platforms.
Our picks include a remake of a horror classic, another film by the Black Phone team and a wildly unconventional flick.
‘When a Stranger Calls’ (2006)
When a Stranger Calls is a remake of the 1979 horror film of the same name, which has one of the most infamous twists in the genre. You’ll know it when you hear it, since it’s also a part of this movie. Camilla Belle stars as Jill Johnson, a teenager who is babysitting two kids, Allison (Madeline Carroll) and Will Mandrakis (Arthur Young), when she begins receiving a series of disturbing phone calls.
The Stranger (voiced by genre legend Lance Henriksen) delights in tormenting Jill with increasingly menacing threats. She can’t simply run away, because she has to protect the children as well. The Stranger also seems to know every move Jill makes, and he may be closer than she realizes.
When a Stranger Calls is streaming on Netflix.
‘Sinister’ (2012)
The Black Phone director Scott Derrickson and star Ethan Hawke previously collaborated on Sinister. In this film, Hawke portrays Ellison Oswalt, a true crime writer who is attempting to revitalize his career. Ellison didn’t tell his family that he picked their new home because it was the site where the Stevenson family was murdered years before.
After discovering hidden film reels of the Stevenson killings and other murders, Ellison thinks he’s found exactly what he’s looking for. He sure did, and he also found a supernatural entity called Bughuul (Nicholas King), whom he’s unintentionally invited into his life to torment him and his entire family.
Sinister is streaming on Hulu.
‘Don’t Breathe’ (2014)
Alien: Romulus and Evil Dead remake director Fede Álvarez took a different approach with his original horror film, Don’t Breathe. There are no supernatural or sci-fi/fantasy elements in this story. Instead, it’s about three thieves — Rocky (Jane Levy), Alex (Dylan Minnette) and Money (Daniel Zovatto) — who picked the wrong target for a home invasion.
The homeowner is Norman Nordstrom (Stephen Lang), a blind Gulf War veteran who is far more dangerous than the thieves could have predicted. His senses are so acute that they aren’t able to use his disability against him. Once they’re trapped in his home, Nordstrom isn’t about to let the guys leave alive. And he has another sinister fate in mind for Rocky. That forces this anti-heroine to find it in herself to become a final girl, or else she won’t be leaving the home at all.
Don’t Breathe is streaming on Peacock.
