  • NCIS: Tony & Ziva season 1 wrapped up after 10 episodes on Oct. 23
  • The NCIS spinoff starred Michael Weatherly as Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo and Cote de Pablo as Ziva David, working to solve an international mystery
  • The showrunner, John McNamara, has shared some of his hopes for a potential second season

After a dramatic finale, the first season of NCIS: Tony & Ziva came to an end on Oct. 23.

The 10-episode season reunited Michael Weatherly as Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo and Cote de Pablo as Ziva David. Both actors previously starred on the original military police procedural for several years before leaving at different times.

In addition to Weatherly and de Pablo, the Paramount+ spinoff, which is the seventh in the  NCIS franchise, also featured Amita Suman, Maximilian Osinski, Nassima Benchicou, Julian Ovenden, Terence Maynard, Lara Rossi and James D’Arcy.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva followed the titular pair as they navigate their on-again, off-again relationship while raising their 12-year-old daughter, Tali (Isla Gie). In true NCIS fashion, their lives aren’t so simple, and they quickly get dragged into an intense chase with criminals across Europe.

Since the season finale aired on Oct. 23, fans have been eager to know if Tony and Ziva will be returning to screens for a second season. While Paramount+ hasn’t confirmed whether or not there will be a season 2, the showrunner and cast members have teased that there could be more in store.

Here’s everything to know about a potential season 2 of NCIS: Tony & Ziva.

Warning: NCIS: Tony & Ziva season 1 spoilers ahead!

Will there be a NCIS: Tony & Ziva season 2?

As of the season 1 finale in October, NCIS: Tony & Ziva has not been renewed for a second season.

In the final episode, Tony and Ziva work together to find their daughter Tali after she’s kidnapped by the villain and Interpol agent Jonah Markham (Ovenden). At the same time, the on-again, off-again couple also have to prove that they are being framed for terrorism by the same Interpol agent.

Thankfully for the 12-year-old, her parents come to her rescue and manage to turn some of Jonah’s agents against him to save Tali after a shoot-out. The family of three reunites, and Tony and Ziva decide to give their relationship another chance.

Showrunner John McNamara revealed that they had an alternate ending in place that left Tony and Ziva’s romance up in the air, but he ultimately decided to prioritize their love story.

“Well, to me, it was always a love story,” he told Deadline after the finale on Oct. 23. “All the thriller components were to put them together. I hoped for the end of the season, after 20 years, let’s give them a chance.”

He added that the second “slightly different ending” was more of a “cliffhanger,” but he felt that fans “would have been really pissed” about waiting for a potential second season to learn where Tony and Ziva stand.

What has the Tony & Ziva cast said about a potential second season?

Both Weatherly and de Pablo have expressed interest in a second season while also sharing how much they loved getting to work together again.

“I think we’d be lucky to play these characters for — look, I’ll say this: Season 1 was like a dream. It was so much fun to go back and revisit these characters. Where this goes, we know not,” de Pablo told TV Insider in September 2025.

The actress explained that both she and Weatherly “felt we owed it to the fans” to reunite for a spinoff and “it came together beautifully.”

“We’re just grateful that we got a chance to do it, and the rest is the rest. If we got a chance to do it again, we’d be thrilled,” she continued.

Meanwhile, Weatherly added that his time on the spinoff reminded him of the first few seasons of NCIS when he and his costars would deal with grizzly plot points and ask each other, “‘How many more seasons you got? How many more seasons you got?’ ”

“I have to say, season 1 of T&Z was very magical,” de Pablo continued. “And Michael and I looked at each other many a time, and I’d have to pinch myself. I’d have to go, ‘I can’t believe we’re doing this. I can’t believe we’re playing these characters, and I can’t believe I get to play with you.’ And I was happy every single time I showed up to work.”

As for their characters’ potential futures, de Pablo explained that she’d love to focus more on her on-screen daughter, Tali.

What has the showrunner, John McNamara, said about a possible Tony & Ziva season 2?

Although NCIS: Tony & Ziva has not been officially renewed for a second season, McNamara is hopeful that he’ll get to continue telling Tony and Ziva’s stories.

“I’m not Jewish, but I’m married to a Jewish woman, and my son is Jewish,” he explained to Deadline. “There’s a great Jewish word, kennehora. Don’t curse the future … So I, obviously, I think about it, but I am really, really, really, intensely superstitious about these things.”

While he’s trying to remain optimistic, McNamara teased that he has a “sense” of how to start season 2 and what it might look like.

“I took a little bit to Michael and Cote,” he said. “We had dinner where I kind of sketched out very big ideas. But I really, really, really — it’s so stupid, because I’m an atheist, my only spiritual belief is, don’t count your chickens.”

However, if the spinoff does get renewed for a second season, McNamara revealed that they may use some footage from the alternate season 1 ending that they didn’t use.
