Meghan Markle Reveals What First Drew Her to Husband Prince Harry, Says He Loves Her ‘Boldly’
Meghan Markle is recalling what first attracted her to her husband, Prince Harry.
“[Harry is] someone who just has this childlike wonder and playfulness,” Meghan, 44, told Harper’s Bazaar in an interview published on Wednesday, November 19. “I was so drawn to that, and he brought that out in me. That’s translated into every part of our life. Even in business, I want us to play and have fun and explore and be creative.”
Meghan shared that she appreciates how Harry, 41, loves her “so boldly” and “fully,” noting that “no one in the world loves me more than him, so I know he’s always going to make sure that he has my back.”
Meghan and Harry, 41, met in 2016, going on to tie the knot in a lavish royal wedding two years later. They have since welcomed son Prince Archie, 6, and daughter Princess Lilibet, 4. In January 2020, the couple announced via their Instagram page that they were stepping back as “senior” members of the royal family to “work and become financially dependent.”
The pair later relocated to Canada and then to Montecito, California, where they now reside, a decision that cost the pair their tax-payer funded U.K. security detail. While both Harry and Meghan have returned to the U.K. on various occasions since 2020, their children haven’t traveled overseas since 2022 in order to ensure their safety. (Harry lost his April 2025 appeal to regain security for his family while visiting overseas.)
While speaking to Harper’s Bazaar on Wednesday, Meghan opened up about how her life has changed since stepping into the public eye, noting that she’s found “different ways” to “protect” herself, “whether that’s self-preservation or it’s just growing up.”
One way she’s found protection is through working from home — something she calls a “luxury,” as it allows her to spend more time with her children.
“My office is right by the kitchen, and I love that I can work from home,” she told the outlet, noting that Lilibet, “comes and sits on my lap when I’m in the middle of the meeting, whether it’s about P and L for my brand or it’s about something creative.”
When asked what she hopes her children learn from watching her work, Meghan said she hopes they will understand the “value of being brave.”
“They saw it when the jam was just a pot on the stove, bubbling,” she said, referring to the spread sold under her lifestyle brand, As Ever. “When you’re young, I think you are a little bit more fearless. As we get older, we lose some of that.”
Meghan has certainly been fearless in her career endeavors since stepping away from royal life. In addition to As Ever, she launched her Archewell Foundation non-profit in 2020, has signed deals with Spotify and Netflix and just released the second season of her lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan. This year, the show will also feature a holiday special, in which she and Harry share their tips and tricks for hosting loved ones during the busiest time of the year.
“Being a hostess or a host, it’s about making people feel comfortable,” she says in the trailer, which was released earlier this month. “Let the festivities commence and embrace the special touches that bring joy.”
