Jennifer Aniston Reveals Her Natural Hair Color, Which Surprisingly Isn’t Blonde
Believe it or not, Jennifer Aniston is not a natural blonde.
Aniston, 56, opened up about her real hair color while promoting her haircare line, Lolavie. The actress revealed via Instagram on Tuesday, January 6, that contrary to popular belief, she’s actually a brunette.
“Would I ever go brunette?” Aniston said in the video, repeating someone’s question off screen. “I am brunette,” she replied.
Aniston’s Friends costar Courteney Cox then walked into the frame and layered her dark hair over Aniston’s to give a peek at what she would look like with rich chocolate colored tresses. “Here,” she said. “This is what she looks like, brunette.”
“I’m brunette,” Aniston repeated, telling Cox, 61, that her hair was darker than her own. “That’s black!”
“It’s not black!” Cox fired back. “It’s dark brown.”
As Aniston played with Cox’s hair over her own, she reminisced on playing a brunette in 2011 while portraying Julia in Horrible Bosses. “Oh, this is like the Horrible Bosses character I played,” the star recalled. Cox then gushed that she “loves Horrible Bosses.”
“You were a badass dentist!” she exclaimed.
“Would I ever go brunette?” Aniston pondered, circling back to the question she was asked. “Yes. well that was, you saw that answer, right? Did that work? That I was a natural brunette? This is fake,” she said, pointing at her famous highlighted mane and laughing.
“Do blondes *reeeaaalllyyy* have more fun?? 🤔🤷🏼♀️❤️ @lolavie,” Aniston captioned the post. Her fans shared their thoughts in the comments section.
“Rachel & Monica debating hair in 2026, as they should,” one gushed, referencing her and Cox’s Friends characters. Another added, “Jen’s hair isn’t just hair, it’s a lifestyle! 💖.” A third wrote, “Jen’s hair has its own fan club and YES I’m a member! 💫🫧.”
Aniston’s famous honey blonde hair has long been a topic of conversation. In 1994, she sported a choppy bob, which became known as “The Rachel.” Created by Chris McMillan, Aniston confessed that she actually was not a fan of the look because of how hard it was to style.
“I got that haircut and was like, ‘Wow, this is amazing,’” she told InStyle in 2018. “And then I was totally left with this frizzy mop on my head, because I had no idea how to do what he did.”
She again commented on the look in June 2013, telling Marie Claire, “‘The Rachel’ was high maintenance. I’d curse Chris every time I had to blow-dry. It took three brushes — it was like doing surgery!”
After living with the hairdo for so long, Aniston grew her hair out with the intention to have an easy cut to style. “Now I apply Living Proof Prime Style Extender and let it dry naturally for about an hour,” she said. “Once it’s halfway dry, I use low heat around the hairline and twist the strands with my fingers to get the cowlicks out. It’s done in 10 minutes.”
Throughout Friends, Aniston grew her hair out to her waist. She also sported a bob and bangs in later seasons.
