Demi Lovato Reveals the ‘Mini Pep Talk’ She Gave to ‘Camp Rock 3’ Cast: I ‘Love to be a Mentor’

Demi Lovato embraced her inner camp counselor for the Camp Rock 3 newcomers.

“I wish that I had gotten advice, and I think it would have saved me a lot of trial and errors, like, figuring out s*** my own kind of thing,” Lovato, 33, said on the Thursday, January 15, episode of the “Not Gonna Lie” podcast. “I’m grateful for the path I’ve had without a mentor [and] without advice from others. I would love to be a mentor to somebody and guide someone through the journey that I went on.”

She continued, “There’s no manual on how to be a pop star, and there’s certain things I would tell [them].”

Lovato began her mentorship journey with the cast of Camp Rock 3.

“I actually did give, like, a mini pep talk to the new cast of Camp Rock when I first met them,” she told podcast host Kylie Kelce. “I met them as a group and I was, like, ‘Hey guys,’ and I gave them some advice like, ‘Don’t be afraid to ask for time off, like, take care of yourself first. It’s really important that you take care of your mental health so you can do the other things you want to do, like performing and acting.’”

She continued, “‘If you don’t have your mental health or if you get burnt out, that can all go away. It’s important to take care of yourself.’”

Lovato starred as Mitchie Torres in Disney Channel’s Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam in 2008 and 2010, respectively. News broke late last year that Lovato would executive produce a new movie in the franchise alongside former costars Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas and Kevin Jonas. (The Jonas Brothers will also reprise their roles  in the new flick, as will Maria Canals-Barrera, who played Mitchie’s mom in the OG movies.)

“The story picks up when Connect 3 lose their opening act for a major reunion tour, returning to their beloved Camp Rock to discover the next big thing,” a press release teased of the film’s summary. “As campers vie for the chance to open for their favorite band, tensions rise and friendships are tested, leading to unexpected alliances, revelations and romances.”

Camp Rock 3 will star Lima Segura, Malachi Barton, Lumi Pollack, Hudson Stone, Casey Trotter, Brooklynn Pitts and Ava Jean as a new cohort of Camp Rock campers. It’s not known whether Lovato will reprise her role as Mitchie.

“I don’t know, we’ll have to wait and see,” Lovato quipped on Thursday’s episode when asked about a potential cameo. “We are making way for the new generation to shine their light as bright as they are, and it’s just really exciting to see a new generation step into the footsteps of us. It’s beautiful to watch a generation of new actors and performers have their moment, and I can’t wait to see the final product.”

Lovato also still holds a special place for her Disney roots in her heart.
