Cardi B Gushes About Red Sox Fandom Despite New York Roots After Stefon Diggs and Patriots’ AFC Title Win
Cardi B might be born and bred in the Bronx, but don’t expect to see the rapper decked out in New York Yankees pinstripes.
“I’m a big baseball fan. You know I’m a Red Sox fan,” Cardi, 33, told NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe in an interview at Denver’s Empower Field at Mile High after Cardi’s boyfriend, Stefon Diggs, and the New England Patriots defeated the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game on Sunday, January 25.
Cardi grew up in the South Bronx neighborhood of Highbridge after moving with her family from Washington Heights.
“It’s kinda cool that we’re keeping it in New England,” Cardi said after the Patriots’ win, which earned them a spot in Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks on February 8.
Cardi explained her Red Sox allegiance in a video posted by Boston legend David Ortiz in October 2018.
“I know y’all don’t understand, I know y’all don’t understand,” she said. “But if y’all know me for a long time, y’all know I always been a Red Sox fan. And I’m from Highbridge, so I literally lived nine blocks away from Yankee Stadium. But you know, my father is a Red Sox fan. My grandfather is a Red Sox fan. It runs in my blood!”
During an interview on Elvis Duran and the Morning Show in September 2025, Cardi said she was “a real diehard Red Sox fan” because the team had “all the best Dominican players.”
“I come from a Red Sox family,” Cardi added. “Sometimes people are like, ‘Oh, imagine if you performed for a Yankee game’ and stuff like that. I would love it, of course.”
Still, Cardi admitted that if she performed at a Yankees event, she would feel “like a traitor.”
Cardi and Diggs, 32, have been linked since late 2024. The couple welcomed their first baby, a son, in November 2025.
The rapper has been a vocal supporter of the Patriots throughout their surprising run to the Super Bowl, which has been fun for Diggs to experience.
“She wasn’t a football girl before I converted her over,” Diggs told the media on Wednesday, January 21. “I’m just grateful to have her in my corner. She’s an amazing woman. [I will] continue to build that relationship. You know I don’t talk too much about my personal life. But she’s an amazing woman. I just appreciate her. Hopefully I can build on that and just watch that tree grow.”
Diggs is headed to the first Super Bowl of his 11-year career amid legal issues off the field.
The Patriots star was charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery in December 2025, over an alleged physical altercation with his live-in chef. The woman claimed Diggs owed her money, and he choked her and threw her onto a bed when she confronted him about it.
Diggs has denied the allegations and a court date is currently set for February 13, five days after the Patriots play in the Super Bowl.
