Demi Engemann Absent from Whitney Leavitt’s Broadway Debut amid Rumors She Won’t Return for Mormon Wives Season 4
NEED TO KNOW
- Demi Engemann did not attend Whitney Leavitt’s Broadway debut in Chicago on Feb. 2
- The MomToker was the only of the primary nine Mormon Wives cast members to not attend
- Rumors have swirled that Engemann will not appear on the fourth season of the Hulu show after she told PEOPLE in December that she hadn’t decided and she didn’t appear in the trailer released in January
Demi Engemann was a no-show as her Secret Lives of Mormon Wives castmate made her Broadway debut.
On Monday, Feb. 2, Whitney Leavitt — a breakout star of Mormon Wives and a semi-finalist on the 34th season of Dancing with the Stars — took the stage at New York City’s Ambassador Theater in the iconic role of Roxie Hart in Chicago, beginning a six-week limited engagement in the production through March 15.
Leavitt appeared to get emotional as she gave her final bows, looking out into the audience, where she was supported by her husband, Conner, childhood friends, and most of the cast of Mormon Wives — all of whom stopped by the afterparty later that night, as well.
But there was one notable absence in the crowd on opening night: Engemann, the only of the Mormon Wives’ main nine cast members to not be in attendance.
Though Engemann was not there in person, she did send her support to Whitney from afar, posting a photo of the two of them with the overlaid text, “Today’s the day!! Break a leg Roxie Hart!!! 🥹♥️🌹💃” And after the curtain call, she reposted a PEOPLE video to her Instagram Stories of Whitney giving her final bows, adding, “my girl!!! 😭♥️”
Engemann’s no-show comes amid swirling speculation that she will not appear in the fourth season of Mormon Wives.
After Engemann’s explosive third season — where she left certain cast members frustrated by how she handled situations — the MomToker told PEOPLE in December that her choice about whether to return was a “big decision and I don’t take it lightly.”
“I have had wonderful experiences doing the show,” she continued. “I’ve had moments that I didn’t appreciate and where it felt like it maybe wasn’t a good fit for me, but it’s definitely something that I’m considering.”
At the time, she also confirmed that the opportunity to return had “been extended to me” — but when pressed about her decision, she said, “We’ll see.”
Speculation only grew on Jan. 21, when Hulu released the trailer for the fourth season of the show, in which Engemann notably did not appear.

It seems that the Chicago opening night afterparty — hosted at Glass House Tavern, a bistro several blocks from the theater — may also play a role in a future season of Mormon Wives, as all guests had to sign a digital waiver before entering, and several cameramen and boom mic operators strolled around the venue, training their equipment on the Mormon Wives cast.
Though details are limited on the fourth season of Mormon Wives, which premieres on Hulu on March 12, in an interview with PEOPLE ahead of Chicago’s opening night, Whitney teased that her experience on DWTS would be making an appearance.
“People are gonna be able to see behind the scenes of my Dancing with the Stars journey, which I think is really cool,” shared Leavitt. “Not a lot of people have been able to see that, so I’m excited.”
