Prince Andrew Evidence Is ‘Damning’ as He Faces Life in Prison After Arrest, Says Expert
This week on Legally Us, attorney James J. Sexton breaks down the legal repercussions Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor could face after he was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
“The U.K. legal system and the U.S. legal system are quite different in terms of burden of proof and even procedure, but I don’t think anybody today wishes they were Prince Andrew,.” Sexton tells Us Weekly. “This is a very difficult situation, and I’m certainly glad I’m not his attorney because that is a very, very challenging case that’s presented against him. This is a situation where England and the U.K. are essentially taking the [Jeffery] Epstein charges, one might argue, a little more seriously than the United States.”
Andrew, 66, was released from police custody hours after his shocking arrest. Earlier this month, U.K. authorities confirmed they were looking into Andrew following allegations that the disgraced royal family member shared confidential information with the late billionaire sex trafficker during his tenure as a U.K. trade envoy from 2001 to 2011.
If convicted, Andrew faces life in prison.
“He’s certainly in a position where he’s been out of the graces of the royal family for a long time and for a myriad of reasons, but this is certainly the most damning pool of evidence that’s ever been provided against him,” Sexton tells Us. “It’s certainly something that any attorney looks at and says, ‘I would not want to try to make a meal out of those ingredients,’ because it is not a favorable one for him, and it’s a good one for the prosecution.”
Sexton, for his part, has worked as a divorce lawyer for over 25 years, which inspired the launch of TrustedPrenup.com, which will be featured in this year’s Oscars gift bag for the stars.
“We’re basically a way to democratize prenuptial agreements for people across all 50 states. We’re using AI- backed technology to basically give people the ability to write the rules for their relationship,” Sexton explains. “It’s about empowering couples to make good choices and a rule set for their own relationship, and we’re very thrilled to be included in the gift bag of Hollywood’s biggest night. So whether they’re looking for one or not, we’re making sure that Michael B. Jordan, Leonardo DiCaprio and a lot of the people that have so far been smart enough to maybe duck the bullet of marriage are going to have that opportunity given to them, and I hope they’ll avail themselves of it.”
