Elizabeth Hurley, 60, rewears 1999 Met Gala Versace gown in India
Elizabeth Hurley went digging through her wardrobe this weekend — and came out wearing a showstopper.
The British actress and model, 60, shared a side-by-side photo on Instagram comparing herself in the same plunging black Versace gown she first wore to the 1999 Met Gala with a new snap taken during a trip to India.
The halter-neck number dazzled with a deep-V neckline, thigh-high slit and bejeweled embellishment at the waist in shades of pink and amber. For its 2026 encore, Hurley accessorized with chandelier earrings, a pendant necklace and a silver crystal bindi.
“Viva Versace!” the swimwear designer wrote. “For this weekend’s adventure in India, I dug into my archives and unearthed one of my favourite pieces, which I last wore to the Met Gala in 1999. 27 years may have passed, but some loves never fade.”
Fans flooded the comments, with one writing, “What elixir do you take?” while others called her “Benjamina Button” and “the finest of fine wines.” One commenter summed it up in two words: “Aging backwards.”
Her son, Damian Hurley, 23, commented “Hell yeaaaaaa ❤️,” while Donatella Versace herself chimed in with a trio of emojis: “😘💥✨.”
The dress debuted at the 1999 Met Gala, which celebrated the “Rock Style” exhibition. That same evening, Versace wore the plunging tropical-print gown that Jennifer Lopez would sear into the cultural consciousness just months later at the Grammys, while Liv Tyler and Stella McCartney sported studded “Rock Royalty” one-shouldered tees.
As Page Six Style has previously noted, “Even back in 1999, Elizabeth Hurley never met a plunging neckline or hip-high slit she didn’t like.”
Raiding the Versace archives is something of a habit for the “Austin Powers” alum. During quarantine in 2020, she slipped into a pink Versace chainmail dress she’d last worn to the 1999 CFDA Fashion Awards, telling Harper’s Bazaar, “I put it away in acid-free tissue paper straightaway, and it’s still perfect!”
Her most famous Versace moment dates back to 1994, when she wore Gianni Versace’s black safety-pin dress to the London premiere of then-boyfriend Hugh Grant’s “Four Weddings and a Funeral.”
She confirmed in 2019 that the original still fits, adding, “Just because it still fits doesn’t mean I would wear it today — it wouldn’t be appropriate!”
Hurley’s weekend in India extended beyond the Versace revival. She celebrated Holi in Delhi alongside son Damian, beauty entrepreneur Trinny Woodall and ex-husband Arun Nayar, donning a traditional white kurta for the festival of colors.
