Comedian Alex Duong made a heartbreaking comment on social media just weeks before succumbing to cancer at 42
Comedian Alex Duong had faith he would beat his cancer just two months before he tragically died.
Duong battled alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer affecting soft tissue, for a year before he died Saturday.
He was 42 years old.
Duong’s last Instagram post was on Jan. 28, when he shared a video of his friend asking for fans to support the comedian and actor after his cancer battle took a turn for the worse.
The friend shared, “I just found out my boy Alex, he’s been battling eye cancers, quite a while … and it was going good and he recently had a seizure. And the thing with the seizure, they found out he has something in his spine, man.”
Duong heartbreakingly commented, “👏👏 I will walk out of here.”
On Friday, Duong’s friend Hilarie Steele shared on a GoFundMe created for the comedian and his family — his wife, Christina, and their 5-year-old daughter, Everest — that the “Blue Bloods” actor’s condition changed suddenly.
“He has gone into septic shock, a severe and life-threatening infection that has overwhelmed his body,” she wrote. “He is in the hospital, and the situation is critical. Everything has changed so quickly.”
The next day, she announced his death and said that he was “comfortable” and “thankfully out of pain.”
“He was alert enough to say goodbye to his little girl, whom he has treasured every moment since the day she was born,” she wrote.
“We are devastated, but so grateful for the support, prayers and generosity you have all shown during this unimaginable time.”
Duong had the support of fellow comedians after he was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma in early 2025.
In August 2025, “The Alex Duong Has Cancer In His Eye Comedy Benefit Show” was held at the Largo in Los Angeles, which featured comedians like Ronnie Chieng and Andrea Jin.
Duong told the Los Angeles Times about his cancer battle last year, “Comedians always have each other’s backs when times are sh–t. We know how hard it is to pine and struggle and scrape by in this lifestyle, just so we can do these jokes and keep improving.”
“It’s a beautiful thing to see in this world; it really is,” he said.
