Jessica Simpson Reveals She’s ‘About to Start’ Next Memoir: ‘I’m Always Writing’
Jessica Simpson is still an open book — and she’s ready to share more of her story.
“I’m about to start another one. I’m always writing,” Simpson, 45, told Elle in a profile published Thursday, April 2. “It’s the only way that I can confront and be honest with myself, if I want to live my life right and understand it.”
She added, “I journal my way through a lot of thoughts and stuff. It’s a relationship that I have with myself that I don’t mind sharing with the world.”
Simpson published her first memoir, Open Book, in 2020, where she chronicled her childhood, struggles with body dysmorphia and sobriety, as well as recounting her past relationships. Several chapters were even dedicated to Simpson’s marriage to Nick Lachey from 2002 to 2006.
“I was 22, and I had just pledged my life and destiny [to] this man. And I don’t regret it,” she wrote of their wedding night. “Nick was meant to be my husband. No one else was supposed to have my virginity.”
Simpson further revealed what it was like filming MTV’s Newlyweds with Lachey, now 52, from 2003 to 2005.
“I wanted my marriage to look perfect. I didn’t mind if I looked dumb, but I wanted people to see the fairy tale in Nick. In us,” Simpson wrote in the book. “I had the Instagram-girlfriend syndrome before it was a thing, and I wanted the world to see my husband in the best light because I was hopelessly in love with him.”
As Simpson spared no shortage of tea about her marriage to Lachey, he admittedly never checked out the book.
“I have not read a single word,” Nick exclusively told Us Weekly in February 2020, adding his wife, Vanessa Lachey, also opted against reading Open Book. “[Jessica] did not reach out before it was published.”
Despite the Lacheys steering clear of Open Book, Simpson still bared her soul on each page.
“People end up liking me as I am, instead of something forced, which I take as a compliment, even though it’s an eye roll at times,” she told Elle of her raw honesty. “It is just me. It’s a healthy relationship that I have with the public, in a way.”
After her divorce, Simpson eventually moved on with Eric Johnson. The pair, who share three children, got married in 2014. Simpson and Johnson, 46, separated in January 2025 after a decade of marriage.
“They’re not considering getting back together, but they have love and respect for each other,” a source told Us in December 2025, adding that the former couple aren’t in a rush to file for divorce. “[Eric and Jessica are] focusing on their kids right now and will always put them first.”
