Who is Matt Kaplan?

Kaplan focused on football and film during his time at Columbia University, previously telling “The Backlot” podcast that they were the “only two things [he] liked doing for fun” growing up.

He was the quarterback for the Lions football team and studied film, focusing on directing and writing classes.

The filmmaker went on to start his career as an assistant at Lionsgate and later founded Chapter One Films.

In his role as president of Awesomeness Films, he produced films like “Before I Fall” and “The Lazarus Effect.”

In 2017, Kaplan founded Ace Entertainment, a company that focuses on youth-oriented films and TV shows. Under the company, projects such as “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” and “The Perfect Date” were produced.

“I called some friends over at Netflix and I said, ‘I made this movie. I think you guys are gonna like it,’” Kaplan told “The Backlot” of “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.”

“And they watched it and bought it,” he added.

How did Alex Cooper meet Matt Kaplan?

In the April 2024 interview with Vogue, Cooper said she and Kaplan met on a Zoom call during the COVID-19 pandemic in July 2020.

“After back-to-back meetings, I got on my last meeting of the day with ACE Productions, Matt’s company,” she recalled.

“I got on Zoom and immediately started thinking, ‘Wow, this producer is very handsome — but, stay focused, Alex.’ There were about five other people on the Zoom from his company, but I kept just staring at Matt’s video square,” Cooper explained.

After the call, they decided to take things to a romantic level.

“We went on a few dinner dates in LA and sat in parking lots, pandemic-style, and there was no doubt in my mind after the first dinner that he would be the man I was going to spend the rest of my life with,” she remembered.

“I’m extremely picky, so this was big for me,” Cooper shared.

Page Six exclusively reported in April 2023 that the pair had gotten engaged.

When did Alex Cooper and Matt Kaplan get married?

Cooper told Vogue that she was initially apprehensive about getting married. However, she changed her mind as she continued dating the Hollywood producer.

“I had always been a cynic when it came to marriage. [But] from the beginning of our relationship, I was honest with Matt and told him I might be more interested in the whole ‘life partner’ route,” Cooper admitted to the outlet.

“Growing up, I witnessed my parents live the once-in-a-lifetime love — they are still together, 40 years this year,” she added.

“I was convinced I would never find what they had, and so I didn’t expect it and didn’t look for it. Little did I know, I just needed to find my Matt Kaplan.”

Cooper and Kaplan tied the knot in front of close friends and family members in Riviera Maya, Mexico, on April 6, 2024.

The podcaster walked down the aisle in a custom Danielle Frankel gown that she said was her “dream” dress.

Who is Matt Kaplan’s ex-wife?

Kaplan was married to actress Claire Holt from 2016 to 2017.

The “Vampire Diaries” alum and Kaplan got engaged in July 2015 and tied the knot the following April.

A day before their first wedding anniversary, Holt and Kaplan split, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

Kaplan filed the divorce papers, and the “Originals” alum requested that her name be changed back to her maiden name.

Which other A-lister did Matt Kaplan date?

Kaplan dated actress Ashley Olsen while he was a student at Columbia.

He and the “Full House” alum split in 2004 after three years together.

At the time, spokesman Michael Pagnotta told People that their breakup was “amicable.” The rep also said they “parted on good terms” and “wished each other the best.”

Pagnotta also shut down cheating speculation, explaining that it was difficult for Olsen and Kaplan to maintain a long-distance relationship.

What are the allegations against Matt Kaplan?

In April 2026, Bloomberg published a bombshell report, alleging that Kaplan created a hostile work environment for the “Call Her Daddy” employees.

Sources close to Unwell Network — Kaplan and Cooper’s production company — claimed to the outlet that there is constant conflict between the film producer and staff members.

Kaplan, who runs day-to-day operations while his wife focuses on her podcast, allegedly “earned a reputation for frequently yelling at staff members.”

Some employees told Bloomberg that they have reportedly threatened to walk out in the middle of film sets and live tours.

One witness alleged to the outlet that Kaplan berated the staff on Cooper’s new show, “Unwell Winter Games,” and threatened to prevent them from working in Hollywood if they messed up, allegedly causing the veteran employee to cry.

Additionally, a production manager threatened to quit Cooper’s live tour in the 2025 documentary “Call Her Alex.”

Formal complaints have been filed by crew members who told leadership they would quit if Kaplan didn’t conduct himself properly.

Page Six reached out for comment but did not immediately hear back.
