How ‘Deadliest Catch’ will honor late crew member Todd Meadows after his tragic death
“Deadliest Catch” is set to honor late crew member Todd Meadows with a special tribute after he tragically died while filming the reality series.
The Discovery Channel series will return for Season 22 on May 8 and reflect upon how Meadows’ loss affected his crewmates and the fishing community, US Weekly reported Thursday.
Throughout the season, the show will feature previews of Meadows’ contributions to the fishing season.
However, producers opted out of showing Meadows’ death out of respect for his family and friends, per the outlet.
A rep for the Discovery Channel didn’t immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Meadows died on Feb. 25 after falling overboard on a vessel while working and filming “Deadliest Catch,” Page Six confirmed. He was 25.
His co-star, Trey John Green III, told Page Six that he was inside a shellfish trap — known as a pot — sorting through crabs when it went overboard.
“We’re like, ‘Holy crap, he’s gonna sink to the bottom. We’re not gonna have any way to get this pot back up,’” Green told us.
Green explained that he saw Meadows climb out of the pot and into water that was “only a degree or two above freezing.”
Within four minutes, Meadows’ body was “lifeless,” and it took 10 minutes for a rescue swimmer to retrieve his body. Attempts at CPR were unsuccessful.
“Deadliest Catch” Captain Rick Shelford confirmed his death, saying it was the “most tragic day in the history of the Aleutian Lady on the Bering Sea” via a Facebook statement.
“Todd was the newest member of our crew,” Shelford wrote, adding, “He quickly became family. His love for fishing and his strong work ethic earned everyone’s respect right away.”
Additionally, Meadows’ mom pleaded for the network to only “air good things” about her son.
Meadows’ family is gearing up to file a wrongful death lawsuit, according to TMZ. However, it’s unclear who would be named as the defendant.
Meadows is survived by his sons.
