‘The Voice’ star Dylan Carter’s cause of death revealed
Dylan Carter’s cause of death is now known.
The season 24 “The Voice” contestant died due to the blunt force injuries he sustained from a car crash in Colleton County, South Carolina, TMZ reported Monday.
His death has been ruled accidental by the Colleton County coroner, who noted that Carter was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The outlet also reported that, according to law enforcement, Carter was driving a 2026 Tesla sedan solo just after 11 p.m. when it veered off the road. The car then struck a pole and a fence, before rolling.
Carter later died in the hospital due to his injuries.
He was 24 years old.
Carter memorably wowed “The Voice” judges with his rendition of Whitney Houston’s 2009 hit “I Look to You” — which he dedicated to his late mother — when he auditioned on the reality singing competition at just 20 years old.
The performance resulted in all four judges turning their chairs around to compete to coach him. The judges at the time included Gwen Stefani, John Legend, Reba McEntire and Niall Horan.
He ultimately chose McEntire as his coach, but was eliminated during the Battle Rounds of the competition.
Carter’s family confirmed the news of his death Sunday, sharing that they were “heartbroken” in a statement shared on Facebook.
“As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at Town events,” the statement read in part. “His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt.”
“To the loved ones and acquaintances of Dylan, we offer our sincerest condolences during this difficult period,” the statement continued. “The Town of Moncks Corner, its Council, and entire staff extend their deepest sympathies.”
The family concluded, “He was much more to our family than an entertainer he was our friend and we are deeply saddened.”
