Prime Video Defends Privacy Request After ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Movie Leaks
Prime Video is defending their request that fans let The Summer I Turned Pretty movie film in private after major leaks.
“We love the excitement, but sharing locations and visiting set disrupts filming and creates real safety concerns for our cast and crew,” read a statement from the streaming service on Tuesday, May 5. “We’re working hard to create a protected bubble to make the best movie possible. Please help us protect the magic of Cousins until it’s ready to be shared.”
The official X account expanded on the post.
“The excitement is everything and we’re just asking excited as you, but the safety of our cast and crew who are working hard to bring the movie to life is also critical,” they continued. “We’re just asking for a little extra care while we cook up magic in Cousins!”
Showrunner Jenny Han, meanwhile, took to Instagram Story to call out the recent issues with fans swarming the set, writing, “When people come to set, film, and share videos, it disrupts the work. It makes it harder for actors to get into character and causes unnecessary anxiety for them. We often have to stop production to clear crowds from the shot, which breaks the crew’s focus.”
She continued: “This story means a lot to me, and I know it means a lot to you, too. I want to give you the best version of this movie. Please help protect our process.”
Prime Video announced on in September 2025 that they greenlit a feature film that will conclude The Summer I Turned Pretty story. Exact plot details are under wraps, but the script will be written by Han and Sarah Kucserka.
“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” Han said in a statement. “I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”
The show, which concluded that same month, pulled inspiration from Han’s novels The Summer I Turned Pretty, It’s Not Summer Without You and We’ll Always Have Summer. With the finale concluding the love triangle between Belly (Lola Tung), Conrad (Chris Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), it remains unclear for now what the movie will cover.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere, creating moments of joy, nostalgia and connection that have made it a global sensation,” Courtenay Valenti, who is head of film, streaming and theatrical at Amazon MGM Studios, and Vernon Sanders, who is global head of television at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, shared. “We’re proud of the series’ extraordinary success and couldn’t be more excited to partner again with Jenny Han to bring fans an unforgettable next chapter.”
