‘Boy Meets World’ Stars Will Friedle and Danielle Fishel Discuss ‘Hard’ Falling Out With Ben Savage
Boy Meets World alums Danielle Fishel and Will Friedle are open to a reconciliation with former costar Ben Savage.
“It’s been hard,” Friedle, 49, told People in an interview published on Wednesday, June 3. “Just today, literally, we were recording an episode this morning of ‘Pod Meets World’ and there came a question that we all wanted to know, that we know if Ben had been on with us, it would have been answered like that and we would have heard a great story.”
Friedle, who played Savage’s onscreen brother for the show’s run from 1993 to 2000, still wants “to pick up the phone” so they can talk.
“I know I’m shouting into the void, but I’m going to keep doing it. I haven’t given up on my friend,” he added. “I’m hoping that he comes back into our lives at some point, and when he does, we’re going to have a lot to talk about.”
Fishel, 45, shared a similar sentiment — wishing that she was a part of Savage’s life as a new dad.
“I love imagining him in this new chapter of his life as a dad. I know he has had a baby girl,” she said. “He’s now a husband. So I love just thinking about him [in that capacity].”
Savage, 45, welcomed a daughter with wife Tessa Angermeier in November 2025. Before their falling out, Fishel told People that she discussed the possibility of fatherhood with Savage.
“We talked a lot about how he looked forward to being a dad someday. So I like imagining this phase of life that he’s in now,” she added. “It makes me sad sometimes when I think about the fact that I would love to just know, like, ‘How’s it going? What’s happening now? What are the milestones that are being checked off?’”
However, Fishel has also reached “a place of immense understanding and grace” when it comes to Savage not wanting to “look back” at their time on the show.
“Not everybody wants to talk about uncomfortable truths,” she continued. “The three of us said it was something that we did want to do. Although we were nervous, it was a journey we were willing and excited to go down.”
Fishel and Friedle launched the “Pod Meets World” podcast with fellow former Boy Meets World costar Rider Strong in 2022. It was initially reported that Savage was also in talks to cohost the show, but he made the decision to step away from the project.
By 2023, the trio confirmed that Savage had “disappeared” from their lives.
“We didn’t have a fight. There’s no falling out,” Friedle told Variety in 2023. “There was no animosity.”
