Savannah Guthrie announces absence from ‘Today’ show for ‘a few weeks’
Savannah Guthrie announced she will be absent from the “Today” show for a “few weeks” to film a new game show.
“I’m headed over to shoot ‘Wordle’ over the next few weeks,” the journalist told her co-hosts on the NBC morning news show Thursday.
“We’re going to shoot the whole season, and we’re super excited. Cannot wait for everyone to see it.”
As Page Six previously reported in May, Guthrie, 54, was tapped as the host of the Wordle game show, which is based on the New York Times’ popular puzzle of the same name.
The game show is being executive-produced by Jimmy Fallon, who told Guthrie that he was “so happy” she was chosen to host the show.
“We were looking for the perfect host for this. We needed someone who looks like they play Wordle, someone who knows how to run a show,” the talk show host, 51, said on “Today” at the time.
“We did the pilot, and you were amazing,” Fallon added.
The game show is expected to premiere in 2027.
Last week, Savannah went on a brief hiatus from “Today” to spend time with her family amid the ongoing investigation into her mom Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
Nancy, 84, was first reported missing from her Tucson, Arizona, home on Feb. 1.
During the investigation into her disappearance, authorities found a trail of blood on the elder’s front porch.
That month, the FBI released horrifying home security camera photos of an armed and masked person outside of Nancy’s door the night she disappeared.
No one has been arrested for Nancy’s kidnapping. However, last month, a former FBI agent claimed investigators were closing in on the man seen on Nancy’s door camera.
Savannah returned to work at “Today” in April.
Sources told Page Six that NBC staffers were explicitly instructed not to address Nancy’s disappearance or even formally welcome the anchor back.
“It was supposed to be business as usual. [Producers] said to act totally normal,” the insider told us at the time. “‘Move forward’ is the vibe. It’s been a hard year and a draining time.”
