After two weeks of headline-making matches, the US Open is drawing to a close.

The men’s singles finals are scheduled for today, Sept. 13, with No. 8 seed Ben Shelton taking on current No. 1 seed Alexander Zverev.

Shelton, 23, is the first Black American to reach the US Open men’s final since Arthur Ashe in 1972. And if emerges victorious today, he’d be the first American man to win a Grand Slam title in 23 years.

It’s Zverev’s second time in the US Open finals, and he won his maiden Grand Slam earlier this year at the French Open.

While Shelton has an 0-5 record against Zverev, he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas and Carlos Alcaraz — both of which he’d been winless against before — earlier in the tournament.
