Tia Mowry and Jackée Harry Celebrate 30th Anniversary of Sister, Sister Premiere: ‘We Didn’t Predict This Longevity’

Tia Mowry and her TV mom, Jackée Harry, are reflecting on their time on Sister, Sister as the show marks its 30th anniversary.
The 45-year-old actress celebrated the 30th milestone with an Instagram post featuring photos on set alongside her twin sister, Tamera Mowry-Housley, and her costars, Harry, 67, and Tim Reid, 79.
Tia starred as Tia Landry, daughter of adoptive mother Lisa (Harry), who unexpectedly meets her twin sister, Tamera Campbell, daughter of adoptive father Ray (Reid). In the pilot episode, Tia and Lisa move in with Tamera and Ray to keep the twins together.
“Today is the 30th anniversary of Sister, Sister and I’m so grateful for this show and the experiences it has given me,” Tia began in the Instagram caption.
“It was the first time I really believed in myself and my dreams. I remember being on a press tour in New York when the show premiered, feeling like all my hard work and prayers had paid off.”
She continued, “My sister and I faced rejection when our show wasn’t initially picked up, but we didn’t give up.” Tia explained that they were informed the show “would be a mid-season replacement,” meaning the series would replace a show that wasn’t successful during the fall TV season, adding how they “were back up.”
“Whenever I feel like I get to a place where I want to quit, I go back to that moment and remember that dreams do come true and to keep going and keep believing,” she concluded.
“30 years since our little show premiered! 🥰,” Harry, 67, wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter). “We didn’t predict this longevity or success, but it should come as no surprise. When you put love, friendship, identity & heritage at the core of your work – it turns into something everyone can relate to.”
Four years ago, before Tia and Harry celebrated the series’ legacy, Tamera told PEOPLE how “surreal” it is to see the lasting legacy the series has left on different generations.
“I still remember the buzz and the excitement that Sister, Sister brought,” Tamera, 45, exclusively shared with PEOPLE.
“To see the younger generation loving it just as much as our generation did, it’s really cool to relive that moment,” said the actress. “I think in a way [we’re] experiencing why something becomes a classic.”
