Kate Middleton ‘may never come back’ to her previous royal role after cancer treatment: report

Kate Middleton’s role within the British royal family may look a bit different following her cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The Princess of Wales, who was once front and center with husband Prince William on royal engagements, “may never come back in the role that people saw her in before,” an insider told Us Weekly Tuesday.

The source added that she is currently “reevaluating what she’s going to be able to take on when she comes back” after undergoing preventative chemotherapy treatments for her cancer.

Furthermore, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams noted that when Middleton is able to return to her royal duties “it will be [based] on medical advice, and it will be very carefully balanced.”

Page Six reached out to Kensington Palace for comment and did not immediately hear back.

The report comes after a source told the Daily Beast that she may not appear publicly as a working royal for the remainder of 2024.

Middleton, 42, has stayed largely out of the public eye since January when she underwent a “planned” abdominal surgery, after which she was diagnosed with cancer.

The royal family remained quiet about her health as conspiracy theories about her wellbeing, cheating allegations and divorce speculation ran rampant.

She cleared the air on March 22 when she revealed her absence had been due to a recent cancer diagnosis. She did not disclose which type of cancer she has.

“This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” she said in a video recorded without the Prince of Wales, 41.

She and Wiliam share three kids: Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 6.

As Middleton remains out of the public eye, William returned to his royal duties in April and even gave a small update about her health when responding to a fan who asked how she was holding up.

“Yeah, we’re all doing well,” he replied.

Another promising report came out in May, with a pal of Middleton’s telling Vanity Fair that she had “turned a corner” with her cancer diagnosis.

“It has been a great relief that she is tolerating the medication and is actually doing a lot better,” the family friend added.

Despite the positive report, it remains unclear if the mother of three will partake in the British monarchy’s annual Trooping the Colour festivities.

The parade and celebrations are set for June 15.
