Ryan Reynolds Jokes He Was ‘Sued’ by Taylor Swift for Using Her Cats’ in Deadpool 2: She Has ‘Very Powerful Lawyers’

Ryan Reynolds says there’s no bad blood between himself and Taylor Swift after he used images of her cats in Deadpool 2.
The Deadpool & Wolverine star, 47, took part in an interview with SiriusXM’s Town Hall in New York on July 19, when he spoke about Swift’s cats making an appearance on one of his character’s shirts in the 2018 film.
“Yes, I had a T-shirt made. Yes, of [Swift’s cats] Meredith and Olivia on Wade’s shirt,” Reynolds explained. “Yeah, you know, just little details, that’s all.”
As radio host and former PEOPLE editor-in-chief Jess Cagle asked the star, “Now, when you put her cats on a T-shirt, did you have to call her and get permission?” Reynolds responded, “No, I was sued. I lost everything in that one.”
“And getting sued by a friend is tough to swallow,” he continued, adding: “Also, she has just a lot of very, very powerful lawyers. I found out later those are just the paralegals. The real lawyers didn’t even bother with it.”
“But … I would never do such a thing,” he added of wearing the shirt without the pop star’s permission.

Reynolds has close ties with the singer. He and wife Blake Lively, who married in 2012, most recently attended one of the singer’s concerts in Madrid back in May.
In videos and photos shared by a fan account on Instagram, the pair were captured kissing, and Lively was seen dancing along to one of Swift’s songs.
The couple were joined by daughters Betty, 4, Inez, 7, and James, 9, at the show. Together, they were captured dancing in a clip shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Their fourth child, whose name and sex have not been revealed, had not been present at the time.
Reynolds previously debunked the theory that Swift will be in his new film, though he told Entertainment Tonight in 2022 that he would be down for a collaboration in the future.
“Are you kidding me? I would do anything for that woman. She’s a genius,” he said.
The actor added that his entire family was “obsessed” with the Grammy winner and her album, Midnights at the time.
“Oh my God, yes. All of us, whole house, I’m not kidding. I love it so much,” he told ET. “I do, Blake does, my daughters. We love it. Obsessed.”
Deadpool & Wolverine is in theaters on July 26.
