Meghan Markle, Prince Harry launching two shows on Netflix featuring cooking and professional polo
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are in the early stages of production on two new Netflix projects, Page Six can reveal.
The couple, who inked a deal with the streamer in 2020 under their Archewell Productions banner, are working on non-fiction projects in the lifestyle and sports categories.
The “Suits” alum will star in a series celebrating “the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining, and friendship.”
Leah Hariton — who produced Selena Gomez’s cooking show, “Selena + Chef” — will serve as the showrunner.
The second series will focus on one of Harry’s favorite sports: polo.
The untitled project is currently filming at the US Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Fla., and is expected to take viewers behind the scenes of the glamorous game played on horseback.
Page Six understands the British royal, 39, won’t be starring in the show, but is expected to make cameos.
Sources previously told us that Markle, 42, is trying to align herself with lifestyle entrepreneurs like Joanna Gaines and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Page Six was the first to report that her upcoming Netflix project would resemble her former blog, The Tig, in an attempt to “take on” America’s most famous lifestyle queens.
“From what I understand, I think Meghan will take on Martha Stewart, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ina Garten and play them at their own game,” one industry insider said.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first Netflix project, “Harry & Meghan,” was watched by more than 81 million households in its first three weeks on the platform in December 2022.
However, Rachel Richardson, writer of the Highly Flammable trends newsletter, warned that Markle will need to be just as candid in her upcoming projects if she wants to compete with the lifestyle bigwigs.
“The reason Martha, Joanna and Gwyneth have crushed it is because they’ve let viewers into their most private spaces and shared their biggest secrets,” she previously told us.
“Authenticity is key in the lifestyle arena and those that succeed tend to be willing to share their whole lives,” Richardson added.
“In ‘Harry & Meghan’ and the Oprah interview, Meghan let cameras capture some aspects of her private life. But to pull off a successful lifestyle show she’ll have to be prepared to swing the door all the way open.”
Most recently, the mother-of-two inked a new podcast deal with Lemonada Media and announced she will launch a new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.
