Aubrey Plaza’s husband, Jeff Baena, dead by suicide at age 47: report
Aubrey Plaza’s husband, Jeff Baena, has died, Page Six can confirm. He was 47.
The film director’s assistant found him dead inside his Los Angeles-area home Friday morning, according to TMZ. Police then responded to a call for a death investigation around 10:30 a.m. local time.
Baena was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene and law enforcement sources told the outlet the filmmaker died by suicide. The exact details surrounding how he died are not immediately unknown.
Page Six has reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles Coroner’s Office but did not immediately hear back. An official cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
Plaza, 40, has yet to speak out on her husband’s passing, but her rep directed us to a statement given to Deadline Saturday that states “the family is devastated and asks for privacy at this difficult time.”
The “White Lotus” actress had been married to Baena since 2021. They had no children together.
Im May of that year, Plaza revealed the couple secretly tied the knot by congratulating the screenwriter on his comedy “Spin Me Round” and referring to him as her “darling husband” in the Instagram post.
The “Parks and Recreation” alum then shared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” how their nuptials came to be after they “got a little bored one night” while quarantining amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
She said she spontaneously told Baena the day of their wedding, “Hey, it’s our 10-year anniversary, we should do something. Get an ice cream cone or do something special” and “joked about getting married.”
Plaza said she found 1hourmarriage.com, a website that helps couples get marriage licenses and tie the knot in a short period of time, and they were able to wed.
The comedian pointed out, “We didn’t tell anybody we were doing it.”
Plaza and Baena began dating in 2011 after working together on multiple projects, including 2014’s “Life After Beth” and 2017’s “The Little Hours.”
The indie film director was also known for “Joshy,” “Horse Girl” and co-writing “I Heart Huckabees.”
