‘All My Children’ alum Colin Egglesfield diagnosed with cancer for a third time

Soap actor Colin Egglesfield revealed he underwent surgery recently after being diagnosed with cancer for the third time.

“Thankfully, we caught my prostate cancer early and after a year of doing a lot of research and talking to quite a few health care professionals, I elected to be proactive and have surgery,” the 51-year-old captioned an Instagram post earlier this week.

The “All My Children” alum began his lengthy post with a quote he made in an interview more than 20 years ago.

“It’s not the hand that you’ve been dealt because you can’t change that. It’s how you play the cards that counts,” he wrote, adding the sage advice he gave to himself when he was 25 has “served [him] well” throughout his life.

The first slide of the post featured Egglesfield posing for a selfie in front of the City of Hope Cancer Center in Goodyear, Ariz.

He also included photos from his hospital stay, including post-op surgery photos.

“The beginning to this year hasn’t been the easiest, but in the spirit of what I said in my interview, this is another opportunity to decide who I choose to be in the face of uncertainty and challenges in my most recent cancer diagnosis,” he added.

The “Melrose Place” alum went on to thank the medical team at the cancer center for their support during the “scary time” in his life.

He further wrote that he wanted to share his personal experience with cancer to remind others that they’re “not alone.”

Despite the cancer diagnosis, Egglesfield said that he is on the mend and getting better everyday.

“I’m getting healthier and stronger. I’m still a bit sore but I’m making progress and am determined to come back stronger and healthier than ever especially with the help of my sexy walker,” he joked.

Egglesfield concluded his post by encouraging other men to get “checked regularly” as doing so “saved [his] life!”

He was previously diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2006, per Us Weekly. His second cancer diagnosis came after he underwent surgery to remove it; however the cancer had then spread to his other testicle.

In 2019, Egglesfield told Fox News that he initially didn’t want to go public with the diagnosis due to the stigma.

“It’s not something that men normally like to talk about, and for the longest time, I didn’t want to talk about it because it’s something very personal,” he explained.

“I just noticed that my left testicle had swelled up, and I went to see the doctor and he said that we needed to do some tests, ultrasound, a blood test. And they discovered that it was at a pretty advanced stage, and did the surgery and found that some of the cancer cells had gone through the veins and arteries to the kidneys.”

Egglesfield’s multiple cancer diagnoses inspired him to write his 2019 book “Agile Artist.”
