Sterling K. Brown Shares Update on Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia After Homes Lost to Fire
This is Us’ Sterling K. Brown shared an update on his former costars Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia after they both lost their respective homes in the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this month.
The actor, 48, told Extra on Thursday, January 23, that he had checked in on Moore and Ventimiglia after news broke that their houses went up in flames.
“Talked to Milo, talked to Mandy. Talked to them both. It’s difficult,” Brown, who played Randall Pearson on the show, told the outlet. “They’re just very much in the midst of all of it. It’s one day at a time.”
Ventimiglia, 47, and his heavily pregnant wife Jarah Mariano’s Malibu home was among the thousands destroyed by the fires.
In an eerily similar coincidence, Ventimiglia’s This Is Us character, Jack Pearson, died from smoke inhalation after the family home burned down in fictional scenes.
Ventimiglia touched on this as he told CBS News on January 9, “You know, it’s not lost on me, life imitating art.”
The actor, who watched his home burn down via security footage, told the outlet the loss was “heavy.”
“You start thinking about all the memories in different parts of the house and what not and then you see your neighbor’s houses and everything kind of around and your heart just breaks,” he said.
Meanwhile, Moore, 40, who played Ventimiglia’s onscreen wife, Rebecca Pearson, was also affected by the wildfires.
The actress shared via Instagram on January 9 that her home in Altadena, which she shared with husband, Taylor Goldsmith, and Gus, 3, Ozzie, 2, and Lou, 4 months, was destroyed. In her post, she revealed that the “main part” of their residence is still standing, but it is “not livable.”
“We were able to park and walk up our street to bear witness to all the loss. Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now,” she wrote via Instagram. “It’s not livable but mostly intact. We lost Taylor and [brother-in-law Griffin Goldsmith’s] studio with every instrument and piece of equipment they’ve ever owned. We lost our garage and back house.”
More than 12,000 structures are estimated to have been destroyed in the wildfires ravaging parts of Los Angeles including the exclusive Pacific Palisades area, Malibu, Santa Monica and the Hollywood Hills. Celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Miles Teller, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag are among those who lost their homes.
