‘A Christmas Carol’ actor dies after collapsing onstage mid-show
Actor Julien Arnold died unexpectedly after collapsing onstage during a performance of “A Christmas Carol” in Canada. He was 60.
Paramedics responded to the medical emergency at Edmonton’s Citadel Theater around 8:30 p.m. local time on Sunday and attempted to resuscitate Arnold, per CBC News.
He was reportedly pronounced dead at the theater.
Arnold was remembered by Jessie van Rijn, the theater’s executive director, and Daryl Clora, the artistic director.
The duo told CBC News that the actor would be “deeply missed” as a “cherished member of the Edmonton theater community.”
“His presence brought joy, heart and depth to every role, and his artistic contributions — and big hugs — will be deeply missed,” they shared.
David Horak, a member of Free Will Players, which Arnold co-founded, also told the outlet, “[Arnold] had the ability to create characters that had the biggest hearts in the world.”
Horak continued, “He was like that as well, as a person.”
The Canadian-born actor was also remembered via the theater’s Instagram as “a gifted performer whose charisma and talent graced our stage in countless productions.”
The theater shared photos of Arnold starring in “A Christmas Carol,” “The Wizard of OZ” and more productions.
Arnold was raised in Edmonton, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alberta in 1989, per the Canadian Theater Encyclopedia.
He later returned to the university and received a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2006.
Arnold founded The Atlas Theatre Collective theater company in 2008.
Arnold was married to Sheiny Satanove, who served as the managing director for the Punctuate! Theatre in Edmonton.
