Aaron Carter’s twin sister opened up about how she paid tribute to him on the third anniversary of his death.

“I buried Aaron about five minutes from my house for us, so I went there after I dropped my daughter off at school, and I’m able to just go and have that moment with him,” Angel Conrad told Us Weekly exclusively at the Cure Addiction Now event in Beverly Hills on Monday, November 10.

Aaron died on November 5, 2022, at age 34. His cause of death was ruled as drowning due to the effects of difluoroethane and alprazolam. He was one of five siblings.

Aaron and Angel’s sister Leslie Carter died of a drug overdose in January 2012. Another sister, Bobbie Jean Carter, died of intoxication by the combined effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine in December 2023.

Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter is the only biological sibling Angel, 34, has left.

“There are little things that I do to honor my siblings,” Angel told Us in a joint interview with her husband, Corey Conrad, ahead of the event at The Beverly Hills Hotel.

“I put little angel wings on our Christmas tree that I’ve been doing every year,” she noted of her holiday tradition that pays tribute to Aaron, Leslie and Bobbie Jean.

Angel is a mental health advocate and champion at The Kids Mental Health Foundation.

She and Corey attended the Cure Addiction Now’s second annual fundraiser alongside several celebrities. The event raised over $180,000 for the cause’s groundbreaking initiatives linking science and medicine in an effort to cure addiction.

“It’s an honor to be here,” Angel told Us. “It’s incredibly emotional and it’s painful, but it’s also inspiring, and being able to find people within that community is just so important.”

Angel said their focus these days is on the children. She and her husband share one daughter, Harper, 6.

“It starts with you as the parent, as the caregiver, as the teacher, as the coach, educating yourself first, so educating ourselves about mental health and the things that we can do to incorporate that into our home,” she shared.

“We do a really good job at focusing on the positive things right now, and we know that as she gets older, she will learn more. All the Carter family children will learn more,” she said.

“She’s really wise, and she’s really strong, and we’ve allowed her to have a connection with my siblings and with Uncle Aaron,” Angel explained of her daughter. “And she knows him and she talks about him, and it’s very sweet.”

Angel cherishes the family members she has left, which includes her nieces and nephews.

Paramount’s documentary about the Carter family offers an intimate look into their ups and downs over the years, which wasn’t always easy for Angel Carter Conrad to watch. Each one of her siblings had a child when they died, including Aaron, who was the dad of son Prince, now 3. Nick has three kids: son Odin, 9, and daughters Saoirse, 6, and Pearl, 4.

“It’s the two of us left. So it’s really important that we try to create a safe space for our children as much as possible with that,” she told Us.

“I have a close relationship with my niece Alyssa, who’s 14 years old, and I just saw Prince the other day, and my niece Bella, who lives with my mom. So it’s complicated, but there’s a lot of love there, and I hope that as an aunt and a family member, they can look up to me, and they can always knock on our door,” Angel continued. “We’ll always be there.”
