All about the high-fashion space suits Lauren Sánchez helped design for Blue Origin flight: ‘Bring a little spice to space’

The Blue Origin team went to space in style.

Lauren Sánchez 55, who is part of the six all-women celebrity crew on the Blue Origin space flight, teamed up with Monse co-founders Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim to create custom looks for Monday’s launch.

“Usually, you know, these suits are made for a man,” Sánchez told the New York Times. “Then they get tailored to fit a woman.”

Sánchez, however, flipped the script for the historic 11-minute excursion, which included singer Katy Perry, journalist Gayle King, film producer Kerianne Flynn and scientists Amanda Nguyen and Aisha Bowe.

They began brainstorming the outfits for the Blue Origin, Sánchez’s fiancé Jeff Bezos’ space company, in late 2024. “We really didn’t know where to start,” Garcia said to the publication. “There’s no precedent. All the references are men’s spacesuits.”

He added that simplicity, comfort and fit were important, but they also wanted “something that was a little dangerous, like a motocross outfit. Or a ski suit. Flattering and sexy.”

After tossing ideas around, the three decided on bright blue bodycon jumpsuits made from flame-resistant stretch neoprene with functional details like a compression layer, a belt, a dual-zip front and zippers on the bottoms which allow for a flared silhouette, if preferred.

To ensure they were the perfect fit for everyone, each member had their body 3-D scanned.

“I think the suits are elegant,” Sánchez explained in the interview, adding, “but they also bring a little spice to space.” King, meanwhile, noted that the suits look “professional and feminine at the same time.”

Garcia’s reaction when he saw the looks on? “Damn, you look good. You’re going up in space looking hot.”

According to the co-founder, they also had a full meeting contemplating what underwear Sánchez would wear in space. “Skims!” Sánchez chimed in during the interview.

Prior to the flight, Sánchez and Perry revealed they would the blasting off in full glam mode.

“Who would not get glam before the flight?!” the philanthropist said to Elle during an interview with the all-female crew.

“Space is going to finally be glam,” the “Dark Horse” singer added. “Let me tell you something. If I could take glam up with me, I would do that. We are going to put the ‘ass’ in astronaut.”

Sánchez then quipped, “We’re going to have lash extensions flying in the capsule!”

Mission accomplished.
