Amazon announces ‘Summer I Turned Pretty’ movie after series finale

“The Summer I Turned Pretty” isn’t over just yet.

Following Wednesday’s series finale, Amazon Prime stunned fans by revealing that the hit series is getting a movie.

The show’s official Instagram account shared a picture of Lola Tung (who portrays main character Belly) with onscreen love interest Christopher Briney (who plays Conrad), posing in front of signs announcing the big news.

“The Summer I Turned Pretty the Movie,” the caption reads.

There are no details on what the plot will be, but it will be directed by “The Summer I Turned Pretty” author Jenny Han, who penned the trilogy of books the show is based on.

“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” she said in a statement. “I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”

“The Summer I Turned Pretty” spanned three seasons on Amazon Prime. Aside from Tung and Briney, the show also starred Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah), Sean Kaufman (Steven), Rain Spencer (Taylor), Jackie Chung (Laurel), Tom Everett Scott (Adam) and Rachel Blanchard (Susannah).

Season 3 followed Belly’s ill-fated wedding to Jeremiah before moving to Paris, France, for a new start. The finale saw Belly finally making a choice on whether or not she wanted to be with Conrad.

Aside from being a ratings hit for Amazon, the show is extremely popular on social media.

It also features multiple Taylor Swift songs, as Han is an outspoken fan of the 35-year-old pop star.

Han said of the show’s audience in a Q&A with the Hollywood Reporter published Wednesday, “I’ve been told it’s like half Millennial, half Gen Z and younger. Anecdotally, the audience feels very diverse. And with this season, the audience got much bigger in terms of reach.”

“I’ll be scrolling my For You Page, and it’ll be women in college and then a 50-year-old man,” she continued. “I think people were curious.”
