While Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer announced their decision to end their marriage on December 12, 2025, the pair had nothing but lovely things to say about each other during their romantic relationship.

“Blah blah blah Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years,” Schumer captioned a throwback photo of the couple on a New York City Subway train. “We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time.”

The news followed weeks of speculation about the state of their relationship, starting in November after the Daily Mail alleged the two were experiencing a “difficult time.”

She Didn’t Know She Could Love Someone As Much As Her Son

“I didn’t know I could love someone that much — no offense to my husband,” she told Entertainment Tonight in November 2019 after becoming a mother. (The pair share son Gene, whom they welcomed in May 2019.)

“I think we’re both shocked by the level of love that’s possible,” she added.

They Are Focused On Coparenting

Chris Fischer Was “The Best Partner Ever”

While sitting down for a 2022 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Schumer praised Fisher as “the best partner ever, ” adding that his autism diagnosis was akin to “getting a superpower.”

“People just don’t know much about autism,” she said. “They’re like, ‘Oh, does he love to count? Should we drop a bunch of straws on the floor and will he count them?’”

His Brain Is “Different”

Fischer revealed her husband’s autism diagnosis during her 2019 comedy special Growing.

“I knew from the beginning that my husband’s brain was a little different than mine. My husband was diagnosed with what used to be called Asperger’s. He has autism spectrum disorder. He’s on the spectrum,” she said. “And once he was diagnosed, it dawned on me how funny it was, because all of the characteristics that make it clear that he’s on the spectrum are all of the reasons that I fell madly in love with him.”

His Proposal Was “Dumb”

While delivering her Saturday Night Live monologue in May 2018, Schumer described Fischer’s 2017 proposal as “dumb.”

“The way that my now-husband proposed was so worthless,” Schumer joked at the time. “It was a dumb proposal. It was the morning. I was asleep. He threw the box at me and said, ‘I got you this.’ But that’s a realistic proposal.”

Schumer also had plenty of nice things to say about Fischer throughout their marriage.

“My husband is my favorite person I’ve ever met,” Schumer wrote via Instagram in August 2019. “He’s kind, hilarious, interesting and talented and I admire him. Am I supposed to hope my son isn’t like that?”
