Andy Dick has reportedly checked into rehab after he was found slumped over outside of a Hollywood building following an apparent drug overdose earlier this week.

On Friday, Dec. 12, TMZ first reported that the 59-year-old actor confirmed he would be seeking treatment with the help of his longtime friend Jennifer Gimenez. The pair appeared on Celebrity Rehab together and have been friends for 20 years, according to the outlet.

“Jenny Gimenez is my sister who saved me with Tim,” Dick told TMZ, referring to the actress and her husband.

The actor and comedian is reportedly entering a rehabilitation facility in the Palm Springs, Calif. area.

PEOPLE reached out to Gimenez for comment.

Before announcing that he would be checking into rehab, the Andy Dick Show alum told TMZ he would not be admitting himself into any facilities.

“I’m not going to be in rehab,” he responded after being asked by the outlet if he would be willing to seek “professional help.”

Earlier this week, TMZ first posted video of Dick sitting outdoors at a 7-Eleven near the intersection of Highland and Yucca on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

A Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE that they responded to the scene “at 3:14 p.m. for a 59-year-old male,” but declined to confirm the patient’s name, citing HIPAA laws.

“But we did respond to that location for an overdose. He was not transported to the hospital,” the spokesperson continued.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) added, “The LAPD did respond for an ambulance overdose,” while also declining to confirm the individual’s name. They added, “This was a medical emergency issue.”

Dick, who has struggled with alcohol and drug addiction in the past, and has had previous arrests, left bystanders concerned during the Dec. 9 incident.

Shawn Harrell, a witness who was present when emergency responders arrived to provide aid to Dick, told PEOPLE exclusively, “His body was limp. It was like deadweight. It was blue. I thought he passed away.”

Just before spotting Dick, Harrell said he saw “a group of guys” in the area “and they had video cameras everywhere. So [it] seemed like they were filming a film or something.”

He remembered hearing people yelling but thought the commotion was “more than likely part of a movie.”

However, the eye witness soon saw Dick “slumped over,” and then paramedics arrived within minutes and “They put that Narcan stuff in him.”

Reps for Dick did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
