Anne Hathaway revives her cerulean blue sweater for ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’

Nearly 20 years later, and the cerulean sweater is back.
Anne Hathaway sent the internet into a frenzy as she documented herself getting ready to film “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” clad in a pullover that resembled the famous blue knitwear from the original 2006 movie.
“Heading to werk #dwp2,” the actress, 42, captioned a short TikTok taken from her bathroom.
Fashion buffs will recall the scene when Runway editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly (Miranda Priestly) lectures new assistant Andy Sachs (Hathaway) on the trickle-down nature of trends, using her “lumpy blue sweater” as an example.
“You think this has nothing to do with you,” Streep’s icy editrix says. “You go to your closet and you select, I don’t know, that lumpy blue sweater, for instance, because you’re trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back.”
Fans of the film can recite the following line from the monologue by heart: “What you don’t know is that that sweater is not just blue, it’s not turquoise, it’s not lapis, it’s actually cerulean.”
Pointing to Oscar de la Renta and then Yves Saint Laurent as the two fashion houses who first showed the bold color on the runway, Priestly says cerulean promptly popped up in multiple other designers’ collections before hitting department stores, and later “trickled down into some tragic Casual Corner where you no doubt fished it out of some clearance bin.”
Concludes the character, “That blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs, and it’s sort of comical how you think you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry, when in fact you’re wearing a sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of ‘stuff.’”
Now that filming on the sequel is officially underway, Hathaway is sharing sneak peeks of Andy’s wardrobe in the movie.
“Andy Sachs 2025 #dwp2,” she captioned one look in a joint Instagram post with 20th Century Studios, which is producing the sequel.
In the picture, the actress looked corporate-chic — perhaps Andy’s back in the fashion game? — in a pinstriped suiting vest and matching high-waisted trousers.
And on Monday, Hathaway was snapped on set in New York, dressed in a black vest, white tank, a light-wash denim midi skirt and Chanel shoes — but not those famous over-the-knee boots from the first “Devil Wears Prada.”
It would appear that nearly two decades after the events of the first flick, Andy’s swapped her heels for a pair of the luxury label’s comfy dad sandals.
Gird your loins — “The Devil Wears Prada 2” hits theaters on May 1, 2026.
