Argument Between Roommates Leads to Stabbing, Murder-Suicide in Las Vegas, Says Police
Two men living together as roommates died in what Las Vegas police described as a murder-suicide ignited by a verbal argument between the pair.
One of the men was found dead after the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said a neighbor called 911 to report a stabbing near the 8200 block of Cupertino Heights Way the evening of Thursday, March 26, FOX5 Vegas reported.
Officers responding to the call visited a local home, where they discovered a man who had been repeatedly stabbed, police said, according to the TV station. The man died of his injuries after officers tried to provide him with aid while medical responders were on the way.
In a video published by KLAS-TV, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Lieutenant Robert Price briefed news outlets on the stabbing and the suspect’s death that followed.
After the one man was declared dead, police received another 911 call from the victim’s family member, Price said.
His family told police that the suspect, who is reportedly the man’s roommate, called to tell them that he had killed the man, according to Price.
The suspect also said that he went to one of the parking garages along the Las Vegas Strip, where he said that “he was going to jump,” the victim’s family told police, Price said in the video shared by KLAS-TV.
This led law enforcement to deploy drones to search for the suspect on the Las Vegas Strip, according to police.
When officers confirmed his location at a local parking garage, they tried to head up to the parking garage to speak with him, Price said.
The man, however, jumped, according to Price.
He was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.
Price, in the video published by KLAS-TV, said that preliminary information gathered during an investigation revealed both men, who are in their 70s, were roommates who had gotten into an argument.
It is unclear how long they had been living together, Price said.
The suspect stabbed the one roommate during the argument, then left their home in the victim’s car, according to Price. He drove the car to the parking garage, where he was found dead, Price said.
“This is an isolated incident, there’s no threat to the public at this time, but we do encourage anyone with information to reach out to LVMPD Homicide,” Price said.
Anonymous tips can also be called into Crime Stoppers of Nevada, Price added.
The names of both men were not specified by law enforcement.
