Ariana Grande is in her feels.

During an interview with Evan Ross Katz on the Shut Up Evan podcast on Friday, Oct. 24, the Eternal Sunshine singer grew emotional when the host surprised her with a voicemail from Sarah Jessica Parker.

“I know you’re a huge fan of Sarah Jessica Parker. I was getting ready for today and I wanted to have some people call in and ask some questions. So I want to bring the icon Sarah Jessica Parker into the conversation,” Katz said to Grande, 32.

Then, the host played a voicemail from the Sex and the City actress.

“Greetings Ariana. It’s Sarah Jessica and I have a question… She’s so extraordinarily gifted and has at this point and for quite a while achieved an authority and a kind of control of her career,” Parker, 60, said.

She continued, “My A. question is when she was little… What did she imagine it would be when she said to a parent, a sibling, a co-worker, or even at a young age, ‘I want to be an actor.’ What did she think and what has she come to understand what it means and how has that… how radically different is it?”

As the voicemail played, Grande appeared in disbelief — and then opened up about how much the moment meant to her.

“I love her so much. What a thoughtful and gentle and caring question… Sorry that just totally shocked me. I can’t believe she knows who I am,” she said before growing emotional.

Then, the “We Can’t Be Friends” singer answered her question and began by stating that it’s “entirely different.”

“I am sure she feels similarly. I was so focused on just art and singing and laughter and comedy and performing and acting and all I really ever want. I’m a nerd, I’m a theater kid, I’m a writer. I like to make people laugh, I like to disappear into character and that’s always been the thing that excites me most,” she explained.

“The fame element is peculiar and hard to navigate,” Grande added. “Especially as a person who… I feel everything. And I think that’s my gift and sometimes my curse. But it’s really weird. I don’t think I was prepared for that part.”

Grande concluded by saying she’s “proud” of the work she’s done to separate herself from the fame element but she’s still “figuring it out.”

The singer and actress is currently gearing up for the release of Wicked: For Good on Nov. 21. In March of next year, she will embark on her highly anticipated Eternal Sunshine Tour.
