Ariana Grande’s Latest Wicked-Inspired Red Carpet Look Resembles Glinda’s Bubble
Ariana Grande continues to embrace style inspiration from her Wicked character, Glinda the Good Witch.
The Wicked star, 31, appeared in a metallic ballgown at the 36th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards in Palm Springs, Calif., on Friday, Jan. 3.
The Golden Globe nominee wore a strapless silver metallic gown with horizontal paneling across her bodice and the entirety of the dress — including her voluminous skirt. The dress’ skirt was shaped in an oversized circle and similar to a bubble, notably her Wicked character’s means of transportation in the film.
The full skirt cinched at her waist and her heels, providing a peek at her white patent leather pointed-toe pumps.
The Eternal Sunshine singer kept her accessories to a minimum but still dripped in diamonds. She wore a diamond choker necklace, diamond stud earrings and a diamond ring on her index finger.
Grande opted to keep her glam simple as well, letting the dress steal the spotlight. The two-time Grammy winner kept her blonde hair in a sleek bun with her Audrey Hepburn-esque baby bangs swept to the side. Her makeup included a subtle ivory matte eyeshadow and a nude pink glossy lip.
Grande was joined on the carpet by Wicked director Jon M. Chu. The Step Up director sported a dark navy blue suit and brown leather loafers.
Grande wasn’t the only Wicked star to appear. Her costar, Cynthia Erivo, also attended the Palm Springs event.
Erivo wore a sheath silhouette backless halter gown with a deep v-neckline accentuated by the gown’s bright white lapels. The Tony winner chose pearl jewelry for her accessories, including dangle drop earrings and silver and pearl rings.
During Grande and Erivo’s press tour for the Wicked film, they embraced their roles of Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, as they dressed in shades of pink or white and green or black for the last year.
Grande was so committed to the role that she went full method on her Glinda wardrobe — before she even had the role.
The actress admitted in a PEOPLE-exclusive clip from the Wicked digital home release that she “had a little portion of [her] closet that was all just little pink tops and stuff, just in case” she landed the role.
“I was like, ‘What underwear would Glinda wear today?’ ” Grande joked.
While Grande hasn’t shared whether she’s kept and expanded her Glinda-inspired wardrobe, she told Variety she has maintained her Glinda glam and her blonde eyebrows throughout the press tour.
“And, you know, I’m still looking for my eyebrows,” she joked in the interview published Thursday, Jan. 2. “I’ll let you know if I find them — I hope I don’t.”
