Anything is possible in paradise!
The July 21 episode of Bachelor in Paradise ended with yet another jaw-dropping rose ceremony as Kat Izzo found herself unsure if she wanted to continue her relationship with Dale Moss. While they seemed to be one of the most secure couples in the beginning, everything changed when Kat found out that Dale hadn’t been as loyal as she thought.
“It’s easy to say things and I love the way that we’ve been showing up, but if a girl comes in next week that you would be attracted to or wanna explore, is that something that you’d be open to doing?” Kat asked while the two laid on the beach.
“Not really,” Dale replied. “Like with Allie Jo, like she’s nice and everything, but there was no click.”
Kat then wondered if Dale had kissed Allie Jo, who was eliminated in week two, outside of a challenge, and his answer surprised her.
“One time,” he said.
“I just feel a little confused because I thought we were supposed to be open and transparent about how we moved in this environment,” Kat chimed in. “I would have preferred if that was communicated.”
The pair went back and forth about whether it was something Dale should have mentioned, but he insisted that “it wasn’t in the cards, so I debted it.”
Kat said she didn’t understand what he meant by that but continued, “I mean, let’s say I never asked you, I would have watched it back and been like, didn’t know that happened. That wouldn’t have felt very good.”
When Dale maintained that “it wasn’t even that deep,” and told Kat to “move past it,” she admitted in her confessional that she was starting to see “a red flag” in him.
Back at the resort, she had a conversation with Jonathon Johnson about her issues with Dale.
“I need someone to prove to me that they mean what they say because how else am I supposed to feel safe?” she said.
“Kat deserves to feel chosen, reassured and as if she is the one,” Jonathon, who was single, told cameras. “I like Kat. I think Kat is stunning. I think she’s incredibly intelligent.”
Meanwhile, he was mainly receiving attention from Golden contestant April Kirkwood, 67, who also had a rose to hand out that night.
“I love him,” she gushed as she leaned on his shoulder by the bar while the rest of the group laughed and Jonathon confessed: “I would love to get a rose from April.”
That appeared to be less of a possibility later, however, when she found herself making out with fellow Golden Jack by the pool.
Kat decided to sit down for another talk with Dale an hour before the rose ceremony.
“I obviously need to have a conversation now, and if it’s met with defense, I don’t know if I would feel comfortable moving forward,” she revealed.
“If I was in your position, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation,” Dale later claimed. “I’m not trying to hide anything. I just debted it.”
Still unsure what that meant, Kat expressed that her biggest concern was not feeling “heard and understood.”
“You said that Alli Jo wasn’t your type,” she continued. “You guys were kissing, though.”
“I didn’t hide anything,” Dale reiterated. “It wasn’t even a thought. It just didn’t mean anything.”
He went on to say that he understood that her “past” was the reason for her fears, but Kat shut him down. “It has nothing to do with that,” she exclaimed. “Please don’t do that. Like, please don’t do that. I don’t want to feel crazy or stupid for telling you how I’m feeling.”
“I just thought we were past it,” Dale added as Kat said, “The last thing I want is to be bamboozled.”
Frustrated, he then declared: “This sounds a lot like my ex.”
Realizing they were not finding common ground, they rejoined the group to cool off.
While Kat felt like she had not gotten clarity “in the way I wished,” she once again spoke with Jonathon, who joked that Dale and Kat’s relationship seemed like “trouble in paradise.”
“I love getting attention from Jonathon,” Kat revealed. “I like laughing with him. So you never know. It’s a rose ceremony. Things change on the fly.”
“The timing of this conversation right before the rose ceremony, to me, it was really awkward,” Dale claimed. “The amount of respect and clarity that I’ve shown Kat since I’ve been in paradise wasn’t taken into consideration. Maybe I’m just cut from a different cloth.”
When the time came, Jonathon had hopes that he would get Kat’s rose.
She ultimately gave it to Dale, who called it “a sigh of relief.” Then, in a shocking turn of events, April chose Jonathon.
“I want you to have another opportunity to be valued for what other people may not see, but I do,” she gushed in the sweet moment, as Kathy Swarts quipped, “I love you April, but you live in cougartown.”
The night didn’t end with many laughs, though.
Kat, attempting to make a joke about never wanting to hear the word “debted” again, later sparked another flame in Dale. “I felt as if what I did up to that point didn’t matter,” he said.
“I try to make it a safe place for you to feel comfortable,” she snapped back. “I don’t know what else you needed, and I think that it’s probably best right now that I go to bed.”
“We come from different backgrounds,” he said under his breath when she began to leave, explaining: “When I tell Kat that we come from different backgrounds, I’m referencing how I grew up, I’m just very, very conscious of the environments around me and the judgments that people place. And I just try to be private with certain things to protect my relationships.”
Walking away in tears, Kat slammed Dale for making the situation about himself instead of her feelings.
“He has no idea about my background, and even if he did, to say that as a form of ammo, I don’t want to get into an unhealthy relationship,” she cried. “I don’t want somebody that can’t communicate. I spent a lot of time to get to where I’m at to be able to communicate. I don’t want to feel triggered and I definitely don’t want to feel judged.”
Back in his room, Dale confessed that he felt like “the best thing for me to do is just shut my mouth and be a doormat.”
“I don’t know if I wanna be with that man,” Kat told the other women. “He f—— freaks me out.”
