Ben Robinson Calls ‘Below Deck Down Under’ Wedding ‘Triggering’ After Failed Engagement
A wedding on Below Deck Down Under became “triggering” for Ben Robinson after his own failed engagement.
During the Monday, March 30, episode of the hit Bravo series, the crew was preparing for their primary guests to renew their vows. Ben, however, wasn’t as excited while reflecting on his own near-wedding.
“Oh, I just missed one. It was my own,” he quipped. “Clearly, tonight’s dinner is reminiscently triggering for me, but I’m going to put my thoughts behind me.”
Ben poked fun about how he “already ruined one wedding,” adding, “And I’m damned if I’m gonna ruin another.”
Us Weekly originally broke the news in May 2023 that Ben and Kiara Cabral were engaged after more than three years of dating. Before their planned nuptials, Ben confirmed in September 2024 that his wedding had been called off. He offered more insight on what caused the split on season 4 of Below Deck Down Under, which premiered last month on Bravo.
“I was meant to get married last year. And I caught her — she had been seeing one of my friends for a very long time,” he claimed. “I’m more sensitive because everyone’s just f***ing let me down, that’s why.”
Kiara, however, offered her own version of how their relationship came to an end.
“Everything Ben has said about me on the show is 100 percent false,” she said in a TikTok video posted in February. “I have never and I would never be romantically involved with any of his friends. That’s not the kind of person I am.”
Kiara offered her own version of how their relationship came to an end.
“The truth is I was the one that left the relationship — not easily, I may add — because of the way he was treating me. There was a lot of trauma I had to deal with from that relationship,” she claimed. “And honestly, I just want it to be over. It’s been over two years, and I really feel like I’ve healed.”
In the video, Kiara said she felt as if the internet was “blowing this up and demonizing” her, adding, “[It] is opening up a lot of scars that I’ve healed. This is really hard for me to talk about. It’s been over two years since the relationship ended, and I’ve healed since then. I truly hope he has as well.”
Kiara noted that she is aware that Ben’s comments were “filmed a while ago.”
“But now that it’s airing and I’m being demonized, it is really hard on me and it’s opening a lot of scars, and I really would like it just to be over,” she continued. “This is the narcissism that I’ve walked away from, and I just wanted to come on here and say that. I don’t have a platform. I’m a nobody. I know Ben has his fans, but I just really want to be in peace. Thank you.”
Below Deck Down Under airs on Bravo Mondays at 8 p.m. ET. New episodes stream the next day on Peacock.
