Beyoncé Brings Mom Tina Knowles Onstage at Cowboy Carter Tour to Praise Her ‘No. 1 Book’: ‘Congratulations Mama T’

- A special guest joined Beyoncé onstage during the second night of her Cowboy Carter Tour — her mom, Tina Knowles
- Beyoncé used the moment to praise Knowles on the success of her memoir Matriarch
- The book became a New York Times bestseller after releasing on April 22; however, Knowles previously told PEOPLE that she almost didn’t write it
Beyoncé brought out another special guest during her most recent show — her mom Tina Knowles!
The 43-year-old Grammy-winning artist took the stage at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Thursday, May 1, for the second stop on her global Cowboy Carter Tour.
After a performance of her Cowboy Carter song “Protector” — where she was joined onstage by daughters Blue Ivy, 13, and Rumi, 7 — the audience erupted into cheers as Knowles walked out.
The three generations of women in the family stood together arm-in-arm, and Beyoncé used the moment to praise her mom, 71, on the success of her new memoir Matriarch.
“Today is a big day because my mother, who worked so hard on her book, she has the No. 1 book on the New York Times bestsellers,” the singer said, urging the audience to join her in a chorus of “Congratulations, Mama T.”

Thursday marked the second consecutive night of the tour that Rumi joined her mom onstage during “Protector.” She and her twin brother Sir have made fewer public appearances than their older sister Blue Ivy.
The teen has been dancing onstage at her mom’s shows since the Renaissance World Tour in 2023. At the time, she was only 11 years old. More recently, she appeared in Beyoncé’s Christmas Day NFL halftime show in 2024, which aired on Netflix.
While Sir has not appeared onstage during the tour yet, he did make a rare appearance in a home video that Beyoncé shared.
The Cowboy Carter Tour kicked off on Monday, April 28, featuring more than 35 songs over a three-and-a-half-hour runtime.
On Instagram the day after opening night, Knowles revealed that “Protector” was her favorite moment of her daughter’s show.
“Oh my God this moment!! The tears, the love the protection,” she raved in the accompanying caption. “It’s one of my favorite songs on the record. Because it talks about allowing your children to grow and to shine on their own, but still being a protector.”
Meanwhile, Matriarch arrived on April 22, and quickly topped the Times‘ bestsellers list. After the fact, Beyoncé wrote on Instagram that she was “so proud” of her mom’s accomplishment.

While the memoir has been a clear success, Knowles previously admitted to PEOPLE in an exclusive interview that she almost didn’t write it “because I thought [people] only want to know all my kids’ business. They’re not going to be interested in me.”
“I’ve lived this incredible life, and you really don’t realize it until you start writing everything down,” she said.
Knowles added that her writing process started over a decade ago as a project that she took on for “my great-grandchildren.”
“I just started thinking about the fact that I never met my grandparents and the history that I gathered for my mom,” she explained. “I wish that I would have asked her more. I wish I would have investigated more.”
While Knowles didn’t initially plan to release a memoir, she eventually felt like it was “time” to do so, so that she could “leave that legacy for my kids,” she told PEOPLE.
“But I also want to encourage young people and older people to go and record their parents and get those stories,” she added.
Matriarch is available now wherever books are sold.
