Tina Knowles revealed that the name of her granddaughter, Blue Ivy Carter, was actually inspired by a blueberry.

“I remember the day that we found out about you being in your mom‘s womb,” Beyoncé’s mom wrote in a 14th birthday Instagram tribute on Wednesday.

“We could not have been more excited! We were told that you were the size of a blueberry and that is where your name came from!” Knowles continued, noting that family members “prayed together” daily till Blue Ivy was 12 weeks old “in [her] mom’s belly.”

“It was apparent that you were a fighter from the beginning, and you talked very early,” the proud grandma, 72, continued.

“And you were always smart as a whip we played Princess and Barbie dolls All the time and your imagination was incredible.”

Alongside a year-by-year collage of photos, Knowles confessed that “To say that [she’s] a proud grandmother is an understatement!”

“Even with all of your accomplishments and success, you remain a very sweet, kind humble human being,” Knowles concluded the post. “❤️To my manager, makeup artist , fashion adviser , my love. Happy Birthday❤️”

Fans took to the comments thread to sound off on the sweet tribute, with one person gushing, “This is so sweet omg.”

“As a first grandaughter… i know firsthand there is such a special bond with your grandmother. It’s unbreakable,” another remarked. “The most iconic 14 year old ever,” a third enthused.

“Lemonade” hitmaker Beyoncé, 44, and music mogul Jay-Z, 56, welcomed their first child on Jan. 7, 2012, in New York City.

“Hello Hello Baby Blue!” the couple wrote in a statement at the time, including Blue Ivy’s name and birth date.

“Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven,” the power couple added “She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs. and it was the best experience of both of our lives.”

Jay-Z previously revealed that Blue Ivy wasn’t originally their intended name for their first daughter.

“Her name was meant to be Brooklyn,” the rapper told Gayle King during a 2023 appearance on “CBS Mornings.”

“That was the name we had in theory, but when we got the sonogram, it was super small and we was calling her blueberry,” he explained.

“Like, ‘Look at the little blueberry!’ It was a nickname. For nine months, we were like, ‘Look at the little blueberry,’ so it was natural. We just took the ‘berry’ off and called her Blue.”
