Brandon Blackstock’s rodeo outing with former stepmom Reba McEntire before his death

Brandon Blackstock had fun at a rodeo with his ex-stepmom, Reba McEntire, and half-brother, Shelby Blackstock, just five months before the music executive’s death at 48.
The trio was joined by the country legend’s boyfriend, Rex Linn, for the March RodeoHouston event.
“Family time, the @rodeohouston and corn dogs,” Shelby, 35, captioned a March 5 Instagram post.
“We had a blast in Houston watching @rissablackstock experience her first rodeo being able to spend cherished time with family! Mom’s concert was the icing on the cake!”
A collection of pics showed Shelby with his wife, Marissa Blackstock, at the event, alongside Brandon and others in the famous blended family.
Three of Brandon’s kids were also present, including daughter River Rose, 11, and son Remington, 9, whom he shared with ex-wife Kelly Clarkson, 43.
They posed at the famed arena alongside Brandon’s older daughter Savannah, 23, whom he shared with ex Melissa Ashworth.
In various pics, the father of four wore jeans, a denim jacket and a wide-brimmed black cowboy hat, smiling while appearing slightly pale.
In one photo, Clarkson’s former spouse tried his hand at an arcade game as Shelby looked on.
Brandon and siblings Shawna and Chassidy are the children of Narvel Blackstock and his first spouse, Elisa Gayle Ritter. After Narvel and McEntire welcomed son Shelby, the country music icon became Brandon’s stepmother.
Narvel and McEntire divorced in 2015, and the “Voice” judge has since begun dating Linn.
Brandon — who finalized his bitter divorce from Clarkson in 2022 following their separation in 2020 — died on Thursday after battling melanoma.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” a family spokesperson told Page Six at the time.
“Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
On the eve of his death, Clarkson announced the cancellation of her Las Vegas residency, citing her ex-husband’s illness.
“Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,” the singer wrote via Instagram on Wednesday evening.
“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”
Brandon had been battling cancer for three years and just weeks before his death, he was photographed looking happy at an event with Savannah, who is expecting her second child.
